Like broken glass... As for Joe Worrall and Adrian Embarba, both would seem unlikely SW recruits. Worrall was a big prospect when he played for the England U21s, but his value has fallen away from around £7.5m to £3.6m. He's 24 now, which is a good age, but his WhoScored ratings are fairly average, though that also reflects playing for a struggling team. I'd guess Forest would want £8m+ for him, which seems a lot for a 3rd or 4th choice CB. I'd rather see Famewo and or Omobamidele given a chance. Embarba is now 29. We were said to be interested two years ago when he was 27, but £10m+ for a 29 year old would seem an unlikely SW move.
Apparently Italian champions Inter Milan are interested in Max. If we sell him to Inter, hope it means we hold on to Emi & Todd as with Bali & Sam Byram (when fit) I think we have ready made replacements for him, so losing Max would affect the team the least
Inter have an £80m hole in their finances they need to plug through player sales before they can start thinking about signings. I can't see them being able to afford Max. Agree though that if we have to lose someone, I'd much rather it was Max. But equally, every time we've seen Webber sanction the sale of a star player, I think few would argue the resulting squad hasn't been stronger. If Emi ends up being a £6m signing we make a £30m profit on, it'll be fascinating to see if the club can repeat the trick when spending £10m+ on his replacement. Especially when the financial hit of CoVid largely makes this a buyer's market.
Just seen a story that we are interested in Ebrima Darboe, a 19 year old DM at Roma. How much of an interest is not revealed so unsure of the situation, but several English teams are said to be monitoring his situation.
https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk...teenager-is-off-to-the-premier-league-3257902 Teenage attacking midfielder from Peterborough expected to sign. One for the future I suspect.
Picked up by the Pinkun now: https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwich-city/flynn-clarke-norwich-city-peterborough-united-8020438 Looks promising in a position where we need more depth.
Telegraph suggesting we're interested in Adam Armstrong. 24 years old, 12 months on his contract. He can play up front in a style not dissimilar to Pukki, or on the left wing. I think it's that left wing role which makes this fit with the profile the Pinkun/Michael Bailey have spoken about the club targeting this summer - presumably having had some conversation with NCFC. I don't think he'd be cheap, but at £10m, maybe? That article also suggests Villa want Emile Smith-Rowe from Arsenal - perhaps part of a Buendia transfer chain?
Armstrong would be a good move, but Transfermarkt currently value him at £14.4m and at 24 his true value would be higher. If he was our player I'm sure we'd be asking for around £30m for him, though the fact that he only has 12 months left on his contract would bring down the price. https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...-rumours-canaries-join-armstrong-race-8023328
yeah i’d have thought Armstrong would cost us a fair amount more than £10m. And much as I think he’d be a good signing, we surely cannot afford to splash £20m plus on someone who is unproven in the Premier League.
Reading through the rumours, £10m is the amount being talked about but there's major competition from West Ham. He does seem just the sort of player we need: "The 24-year-old is incredibly mobile, possesses blistering pace and works his socks off each and every time he takes to the pitch. Armstrong is a great finisher as well. He finished second in the Championship scoring charts behind only Ivan Toney with 28 goals in 40 league games for Blackburn this season." He could be the player SW sees as the replacement for Buendia as a striker who can also play cutting in from either flank, which could be a great fit for our mobile front four.
He made 4 appearances for their first team last season, but hasn't been in the matchday squad since before Christmas. Now they're in the Championship, I suspect he'd get even less playing time. But a loan certainly looks likely, maybe some time with the U23s to assess him first.
Er, "Defensive contribution --- Weak" (WhoScored). Isn't sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander too, Rick?
The difference is that Armstrong has been playing as a striker (38 games) with different defensive responsibilities than a wide midfield player (2 games) who has to drop back to help the FB to prevent overloads, which Emi does very well, with a defensive rating of 'Strong' and that will be hard to replace as there aren't many attacking players with that rating. Cantwell and Hernandez avoid the defensively 'Weak' rating but Placheta does not, which is one reason he's struggling to get into the side.
Angus Gunn for £5m? https://insidefutbol.com/2021/06/03/southampton-ready-to-sell-player-norwich-city-keen/511230/ That would certainly strengthen us at GK for the PL as he'd provide genuine competition for Krul.
https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...es-are-interested-in-milan-midfielder-8025034 Rade Kunic, central midfielder for Milan. 27 years old, agent specifically names Norwich as interested. Tall, can tackle, but more a forward-thinking than screening midfielder. More a McLean competitor than a Skipp replacement I'd guess.
And here's the bit these agents always fail to mention: " ........ but we aren't interested in Norwich". Why would they be if, as he says, they "have many offers from England and Germany" while "the Italian teams" are yet to enter the market?
