    Right, I’ll humour you.

Spurs wanted Ten Hag so looked into getting him, Ajax then extended his contract by a year so compensation would be more. This put Spurs off so they decided to move on to other targets?

Why are we still waiting for Spurs to appoint a manager then?

He must’ve bolted from Merseyside <laugh>. Linked this morning and announced in the evening!

Well I guess that means Conte could very much be on the cards seeing as there’s no Juve or Madrid to snatch him up now.

Bet Everton appoint a successor before Spurs do.

Be interesting to hear the excuses from the usual suspects then.

He was over there on Friday, by some accounts.
They've been linked with Steve Bruce.
I don't care how quickly they appoint a manager, I care how good he is.

    Facts.

We are clearly in an on pitch a downward dip. However, the larger trend, of club stature financially, is an upward movement. In theory we are in a far better position to remedy the squad deficiencies that present themselves. Especially if/when the investments begin bearing fruit - (Stadium rights NFL games etc.).

Hopefully Levy and co can leverage this potential and plug the squad gaps in anticipation of these advantages coming to bear.

It could equally be argued that our upward, 3 season, peak was a hyped representation of our true position and we are now going through a correction.

Either way, we are better off now than we were 20 years ago.

Off the pitch then yeah the club is going upwards. But the most important thing for me is on the pitch. First and foremost I’m a fan of the football team. I’m not really bothered about Spurs having the one of the best stadiums or training facilities when it doesn’t seem to transfer to the team. Same as nfl and concerts, great If it means extra money for transfers (time will tell) but if not then couldn’t care less

    Totally understand.

All this development off-pitch, it must mean extra money for transfers though. That is the entire point of building a new stadium. To better compete with teams who have bigger stadiums and can earn more match day revenue. The sad reality is that everything shut down right at the point where we might actually see the real benefits.

That part has been delayed, obviously. Levy clearly made a mess, but I do have some sympathy for him in that specific regard.

The irony, Tottenham need fans in the stadium more than most teams to help change the reality, just when the entire world goes on lock down.

He can be blamed for many things, but Levy can't be blamed for that.

I do think we've got the intention to spend and the new stadium (pandemic excluded) will provide the funds, I don't particularly see us as being penny pinchers or stingy any more but I'd say the issues now are how/ who we're spending on.

It's hard to pick a genuinely good signing from the last four or five years. Those in charge of making the final transfer decisions should've been sacked already or moved elsewhere, they clearly can't be trusted based on recent purchases. Their job is to get it right and whilst I don't believe any club has a 100% success rate (and never will) our rate of successful signings since after signing Son, Toby and Trippier is abysmal and that's contributed to us being left with a dross squad full of players who've seen their best days, those who've never had a best day and those who've added pretty much nothing, which has seen us regress on the pitch for a number of years now.

I think we are already seeing some of the effects of more money. Bale coming back on the wages he is on is one. I imagine that if the stadium was full Skriniar might have been an easier proposition. Then we might be having a different conversation.

Of course, choosing to bring Bale back over sorting out the defence, is a choice that Levy took. I'm not sure if Mourinho would have priorities in that way if he were unshackled.

That and one or two CM changes and we'd be a much stronger outfit.

Unfortunately, more money doesn't necessarily mean more sense.

So much to comment on here - the debates are fascinating. I love stats but I think that people here are way ahead of my level, but as far as I can see the only thing being proved is the old adage that you can make the stats fit any argument if you know what your doing!

Personally I know we are in decline, but equally the last 10 years have been as good a time to be a Spurs fan as any in the 50 years that I have been a fan, its almost criminal that we haven't got any trophies in that time, but there are 92 football league clubs and 1000s of others beyond that and all bar 5 or 6 would love to be where we have been.

As for managers we need to get this appointment right so I am not worried about the time it takes as long as we get the right man and then back him. Comparing us taking our time with the speed that Real have found theirs is not comparing eggs with eggs - Real are possibly the biggest most famous team in the world finding a manager for them is somewhat easier, so once they know who they want, the call his agent and the wheels move quickly to get him in. We don't have the same pull so it will take longer.

According to Chris Cowlin, Roberto Martinez and Nuno Espirito Santo have been ruled out as potential managers

Oh, he also mentioned we've spoken to Graham Potter...

I've deleted some comments, as some people don't seem to be able to remain civil at the moment, for some reason.
I'll discuss things with @Spurf and @No Kane No Gain and get back to you all.
In the meantime, can we tone it down a bit and stop being so antagonistic? Thanks.
