My main concern re JWP being dropped is that the alleged rationale is Southamptons poor performance as a whole. That reads as Southgate telling him to move if he wants further England selection. Ings is probably off regardless whether or not he was selected. This could swing JWP against Saints though where previously I was fairly confident we would have him for at least one more season.
I might be wrong and call me naive if you want but I get the same feeling with Prowsey as with MLT, I really don't see him going unless we get relegated of course.
I also don’t think there would be too much interest from the much bigger teams, and he may not be that keen in only a small jump up
Suprised if JWP not in England squad. Dead ball specialists are critical in these tournaments and i would want him putting the ball in for Maguire and co in the 88th minute of a tight 0-0 QF or whatever it might be As for Saints its normally because they DO get selected that they leave us after heads being turned so i am less worried about JWP leaving from not being selected
Obviously I'm gutted for Prowsie but from a Saints point of view he can get a much needed rest before next season.
I'm actually hoping for Rice and Henderson to pick up knocks. It would be very interesting to see what Southgate would do.
Neither Phillips or Henderson are fully fit allegedly, but he would rather take the gamble than a fully fit Prowse.
I honestly wouldn’t have been as mad, I understand Prowse has been playing in a garbage team all season and has fallen off a bit himself toward the end of the season. But missing out so that Southgate can pick FOUR right backs is absolutely ridiculous. It makes me want him to fail.
Why should it? He knows enough of our transfer history to be aware that moving to a bigger club normally means you get to play less, unless you are a genuine world class talent like Bale or VVD.
Yeah that's total bollocks as per usual. 4 bloody right backs. The man is obsessed with bloody right backs. Think he was just too scared of the backlash from Liverpool fans and the media to not take TAA. In this squad of players, with two of the out and out CMs injury concerns (especially Henderson who has been out for what? 6 months?) it makes so much sense to take JWP. Not even Saints bias coming into it, it just makes sense. At least two of the RBs probably won't have a sniff of actually playing so what is the point!? In fact I'm surprised that he didn't take JWP as he can play RB. Maybe he should audition for England as a RB next time... Southgate is a tactically dull, floppy yes man and I think he should have gone a while ago now. He's just living off that tournment where things fell into place and we got to the semi. If there was any foresight involved, the FA would have seen the young talented attacking players we have and thought, hmmm we have a very reserved manager in Southgate who has looked like he has continued to go backwards with England since 'that tournament'. Maybe if we want to see this bunch of players reach their potential we should bring in a new, more exciting attacking manager. I wonder how badly the Euros would have to go for the FA to consider a change in management. Obviously I'd rather Southgate prove me wrong and take England far in the competition playing to the strengths of the players we have, but I just don't see it.
Apparently the 6 dropped players are available for the 2 warm up games. What's the ****ing point of that? Why would you play players who aren't going to play in the tournament? Seriously Southgate, just **** off. Twat.
