Now that the players have seen Mourinho, even Poch post-2018 looks appealing. I'm still thinking that it's a mistake but whilst Levy's still pulling the strings...we need a magician.

I think his magic ran out with most of these players though, from the beginning of 2019 the football and results were horrendous and not much has changed other than a few Jose signings.

I feel like Levy may see this as another alternative to a squad overhaul. I’ve got too much respect for Poch to want him to come back into this current mess.

Apparently PSG don’t wanna lose him so that could be a stumbling block anyway.

I'm also surprised he wants to leave having been at PSG for less than a year. And surely, he'd receive considerable backing this Summer at PSG? Whereas with Spurs, they're a bit of an unknown entity when it comes to spending?

Also, isn't transfers/spending (or lack of) the issue that led to the breakdown of Levy and Poch's relationship in the first place?

I don't see a lot of your issues being resolved by reappointing Pochettino tbh.

Yeah it’s a bit weird because you’d think PSG will reclaim the title this coming season, especially as Lille are going to get stripped of their key players, so there’s huge incentive for him to stay and pick up a league winners medal. Though saying that I’m not completely surprised he wants to return either, he was practically worshipped here and he himself seemed to love being at Spurs for about 95% of his tenure. He built a crazy connection with the fans that I’ve not seen at Spurs in my 31 years.

His sacking I think was a number of things that built up over time. Players declined, some left and weren’t adequately replaced, Poch himself got stubborn in periods with refusal of signings but then claimed he wanted a rebuild not long after, then the results from the beginning of 2019 going into his sacking in the 19/20 season were truly relegation form. He genuinely looked a broken man towards the end.

I agree that I don’t think his appointment is the best idea. Unless he returns as the ruthless bastard he was when he first joined because he sacked off about 15 players in roughly his first 12 months and we need that now, but his connection with some of these players may prevent that. Then obviously he’ll need the correct level of backing but Poch’s judgement on transfers wasn’t always the best.

It has the whiff of ..."We tried to get the manager that the fans wanted but....", that we know only too well. Plus it makes it look like something's happening whilst we wait for Gareth Southgate or Roberto Martinez...<wah>

So I wonder IF Poch is who we pursue, a little manager merry go round will go something like:

Conte to Madrid. Zidane to PSG. Poch to Spurs? Allegri also looks set to replace Pirlo back at Juve.

Is it as simple as that, though?

Or do we have to consider how broken psychologically those players must have been losing the CL final after so many years together, coupled with the fact Levy didn’t back Poch for 18 months?

that team needed refreshing badly years ago, and Levy failed to do what was needed.

Levy’s always said though that funds were there during those 18 months and Ally Gold even confirmed Poch refused signings, most notably Tielemans during that period. Then when he was significantly backed we spunked nearly £100m on Ndombele and Lo Celso.

I think Levy absolutely has to shoulder practically all the blame for failing to move players on but I wouldn’t say he’s all to blame for the failure to bring players in. Poch isn’t innocent in that.

Don’t want Poch back, to me it will be another mistake by Spurs. I know the ideal candidate isn’t out there at the moment but going back to the man who was sacked 18months ago seems absolutely crazy

Both Poch and Levy have significant blood on their hands over squad management.

I know OS coated the bloke off something rotten, but things worked best when Paul Mitchell was at the club. We sooooo need someone who isn't Hitchen to do the recruiting and squad building. He has to have real authority and some real successful experience. Right now, It's THE most important role at the club.

I wonder what Alderweireld will feel if he comes back. It was almost certain he would leave while Poch was here and then signed a new contract after he left. May have been coincidence.

I long said that I felt Toby was someone who snaked Poch. The only issue with trying to shift Toby now if Poch were to return is that he’s a 32 year old CB with a £150k a week contract. Not many clubs will offer him better or parity in terms of wages unless it’s a place like China/ America.

Toby needs to move on. Renewing his contract was a really bad move. He's slow and can't regularly play 2 games a week. If we're building around him, we're ****ed anyway.

Poch back so soon is a mistake. He hasn’t been gone long enough for the squad to get over the collapse under him last time, and he hasn’t been away for enough time to exercise his own demons at PSG. Winning the league there is par for the course and without that title on his CV from his time there, I think he needs to be there another year so he can truly call it a success - for his own sake, apart from anything else.

I’m not against Poch coming back at some time in his career but he’s still a young manager and I think it needs to be with an entirely different first XI and in different circumstances to this. It’s just too soon.

    Danny Rose needs replacing....<laugh>

If Levy can't get Toby out of the club before Poch would start, it would be pointless getting the bloke back as manager/coach/next chump, as nothing will have changed and Einstein had that one sussed...

If this happens, it's not for footballing or any good reason...it's because Levy's got nothing else and the ****er's panicking.
