De Gea tried all the gamesmanship that shootout and ended up being the one that missed. Funny game football.
Penalties (and De Gea’s miss) were the best bit about the game! Fantastic penalties - well, 21 of them were (though Shaw got away with one) ..... Well done, Villarreal!!
Shame it ended that way. Really did not like Villarreal - thought they were a dirty underhand team that spent more effort on trying to con the ref. Football seems to frequently reward the sides with lesser integrity.
That has to be the end of De Gea at Man Utd, absolutely unforgivable that. To meekly flop all over the place and allow an entire team including keeper to score, then be the only one in your whole team to miss. I know penalties is a lottery, but that is beyond belief.
With all the experience that Manchester United have accumulated in Europe, and they can't put away a workman-like team like Villareal, there's only one thing to do!
I thought he was not exactly throwing himself around when trying to save them - all looked a bit half-hearted. Bit harsh to blame him for missing a penalty kick however. Villarreal looked as if they had been practicing penalty kicks every day for a month.
I am no lover of Man Utd, quite the opposite, but l hate seeing teams get away with playing football with such lack of integrity. It is unhealthy for the game. I wrote on here earlier how sickening Grealish got Azpilicueta sent off, but now overturned and yet he gets no punishment...
You are right RS. But surely United should have been a bit more savvy in their approach. Besides which, if they had not cocked up in the CL group stages, they would not have been in this situation. As for games lacking integrity, we are about to witness a surfeit of it in the euros. As England lack being savvy, watch them blow it against a very ordinary team at some stage in the competition.
