Thanks for the thread RTB and the live updates and thanks for all your hard work this season with these match day threads, best ones I've seen on the web.

Well played the young'uns, bloody good try. Hopefully we will see some of you next season in the first team line ups.

    Ha'Way The Young Lads.

Knackered after that! Shame about the Chris Waddle penalty at the end.

What a good team we've got there. Pass it around really well and impressive in defence.

Patterson should be sub keeper next season IMO. Release Burge and Matthews, sign a number 1 and promote Patterson.

    Fook sake, well done lads.
Must be gutted. Same as our first team.
We couldn't buy a win atm when it counts ffs.
    Bad luck all round.
Lets hope we get the rub of the green next season.
Thanks for the matchday threads @RTB
    Top notch.
Don't let it get you down all. We're all Sunderland and we will get better.

    Were you at Old Trafford?
Or Sid James Park in the League cup in 79?

Shame for the lads but lots of positives for the bigger picture. Sounds like we'll be seeing more of Patterson, he's got all the attributes to be a good keeper at this level and beyond.

Thanks for all your efforts RTB you're one of the cornerstones of the forum.

Great to read these comments. Pity Olly had one of his quieter games <laugh>, still got a lot of praise from Mark Bright who was a pleasure to listen too, worth the fee without an open end to end game which could have gone either way . He also gave mom to Patterson, I think I have mentioned these two once or twice already on these threads. Credit also to Palace they played well, but we matched them, and it could have gone either way at the end. OaU

The young lads played really well - Patterson made some great saves, Younger and Almond looked solid at the back, Neil & Hawkes played some great football.
We should have had a penalty right at the end of extra-time when one of their defenders blocked a shot with his arm.
    -VAR would have given it.

A real shame that they lose out on penalties but It looks good for next season.

    Anthony Patterson: 10/10
Made several top-class saves to deny Palace the opportunity to score. Thought his distribution of the ball and commanding of his area was excellent. Certainly did himself plenty of favours with the first team coach and senior management in attendance.
    Brandon Taylor: 7/10
Was tested repeatedly but thought he fared very well defensively. Probably struggled to have an impact going forward but that’s understandable considering he’s not blessed with pace.
    Kenton Richardson: 7/10
Always seemed to be involved and deserves credit for his performance out of position - very assured and rarely put a foot wrong. You can tell he’s had senior experience.
    Sam Wilding: 7/10
Worked very hard and did everything simple.
    Oliver Younger: 9/10
He just loves defending. Seemed to be absolutely everywhere when we needed him to be - some great clearances and headers to keep Palace at bay. Well played young man!
    Patrick Almond: 8/10
Like Younger I thought that he was excellent. Looked comfortable on the ball too. Made the best tackle of the game in the first half to deny Palace a certain goal. One to watch.
    Josh Hawkes: 8/10
Was at the centre of everything we did well in the final third. Great to see him pressing and harrying off the ball too, showing his game isn’t just about scoring and creating goals.
    Jake Hackett: 7/10
Tidy performance without standing out too much. Grafted his socks off.
    Will Harris: 8/10
Drew plenty of praise from Mark Bright on commentary for his performance. Proper target man’s display - held the ball up well and brought others into play.
    Dan Neil: 8/10
Breath of fresh air. The way he drives forward with the ball is pleasing. Was very unlucky not to score a goal in the first half when their keeper turned his brilliant header round when it looked destined for the top corner.
    Ciaran Dunne: 7/10
Thought he did fairly well and floated some canny crosses into the box.

    Ellis Taylor: 7/10

Like-for-like when he replaced Dunne - worked hard up and down the line as Palace enjoyed the majority of the ball in the second half. Gutted that it was his spot kick that cost us the game - he didn’t deserve that.
    Ryan Wombwell: 7/10
Slotted straight in and got involved. Some big tackles and interceptions in extra time.

    Man of The Match
    Anthony Patterson. Unbelievable performance.

Well done Lads, you've done us proud. Come from way back to claim a play off spot, and almost made it all the way. Looks really promising for next season.

Massive Thank You to RTB for these terrific match-day threads. Can't wait to see them again next season :emoticon-0148-yes:

Well… as Lee Johnson was there with the owner and CE. Should tell the “Johnson out brigade” everything they need to know about next season.

Unlucky to the lads. Awful way to lose game. Looks like they played very well. Looking forward to (hopefully) seeing a lot more of them next season
