I've no idea of the inner workings of either party but there has never been a Catholic PM. It's just a fact.

10% of the UK are Catholics, Catholic schools in the UK are known to be excellent hence folk move home to get into a catchment area.

Catholics have not been able to succeed to the throne since to 1701 Act of Settlement. There is no impediment to the heir to the throne marrying someone of any other faith, so for example Prince George could marry a Jew or a Muslim. Megz was baptised CofE before she married Harry. I am not sure what (if any) faith she had before (worships dollars) but Harry needs a lot of people to check out for him to be King Henry IX.

Members of the Royal family who marry a Catholic or convert to Catholicism automatic lose their place in the line of succession.
