Well this disallowed goal would have stood today. What a cracker..!
Lot's of good stuff on here - I think the PL have changed the weakened side thing - now you can play anyone in the squad of 25 Agree about bookings for tsking off shirt - ridiculous!! Bring back multi-ball in the FL As for diving, I would set up an FA panel of ex refs and pros to sit each week and review on video - any player caught diving would be banned for 2 matches and fined 2 weeks wages (use the fines to pay for the admin costs of the panel)
In regards to the obstruction rule .......this has been relaxed over the years beyond recognition.....I would like to see it changed to something along the lines of how it seemed to be regarded in the 50's. Which was If you had not touched the ball you were deemed not to be in control of the ball. It would at least stop the players from shielding it out for goal kicks. Wasting time out at the corners should be banned full stop.
Does anybody remember when teams like Arsenal began taking-the-ball-into-a-corner with about two minutes of normal time to go,.? There was uproar, from commentators, pundits and fans alike. Nowadays, as the early leavers are just getting the other side of the exit gates, the shout is... take it into a corner, you idiot..! If it were possible in this Finish-On-Time-For-TV World, I would change the law so that the Referee added on precisely the amount of time the ball is in the corner, to the end of the game, and then add the usual extra time. That would stop it. But would TV allow it..?
On the subject of shielding the ball off for a goal-kick. I wonder, if this was no longer allowed would the game turn out a bit more like rugby with teams kicking for positional advantage? I'm picturing situations where teams with fast wingers would simply play the ball forward and chase it down, knowing that the fullback would need to play the ball and place himself under pressure. This would likely result in the defender often being forced to simply put it out for a throw?
Also the rule I would like changed is the one about punishments. Where if the ref gives a yellow/red during a game then he cannot be punished further after the game when video evidence is seen.
As they used to do before shielding the ball into the goal line became tolerated. Just remembered a 3-1 game [so many..!] from last season when the Bournemouth defender tried to shield the ball away from Rickie, who nicked it off him, and flicked it infield, to set himself up to chip it to Barnard, who scored. Let them keep shielding it. With Rickie around, it's not guaranteed.
Lambert isn't the quickest player but the fact that he didn't give up and chased it down shows how keen he is
I definitely second this! It's incredibly annoying to see hoards of people hurrying down the terrace steps and through the exits just to get there first at the bar or first in to the pisser or beat the traffic etc. All because they can't bear the thought of ever having to wait for anything ever. In the back of my mind, I always will there to be goal in injury time, just so these people miss-out! I always sit there until the end, even if i'm dying for for a drink, desperate for a piss and we're loosing 5-0 on a freezing January evening! I wont leave my seat until that final whistle has blown - never!
I have said before I would like referees issued with Taser guns with 10 metre leads, the ref places the ball where he wants the free kick taken from and then allows the wall to position itself, when they are ready he makes all the players hold hands while he stands over the ball and fires the gun, you can guess the rest.
Oh yeah..! I knew was something slightly amiss, but I couldn't out my finger on it, and in the end I was too relaxed to care. And on that note, I think it's time to get a beer..!
So many good suggestions so far. Very good thread RLGB. I'd change: 1) 7 Sub benches for Football League. Teams can either decide to or not add an extra couple of youngsters with them. 2) Minimum of 5 players (and at least 3 starters) per match-day squad born in UK. 3) Challenges - 2 per game per team (1 extra if Extra-Time) for Goal-line incidents/Penalty/Yellow or Red Card/Dissallowed Goal/Given Goal decisions only. Challenge 'flag' must be thrown by Manager before the next act of play has been allowed to resume or within 10 seconds of goal-line incidents. Decisions reviewed by 4th Official within one minute (e.g. If unsure within that time period then original decision stands). 4) Obstruction Rule. It's just not playing football is it. 5) Straight Red for blatant diving where no contact has been made to try to influence an incorrect match changing decision by officials. 6) Yellow for going down too easy where contact barely made. Shame the question only asks for one I was gonna put the world bang to rights! lol Lat
