the Brentford striker that has been touted could be a good buy for Spurs - not sure who else is around - you can have Nketiah from us for a packet of Spangles if that helps

I don't think the timing is disrespectful. Waited until after the League Cup, at which point the season was pretty much done.

And with the Euros on the horizon, I'd rather he told us now than wait until he gets back from England's defeat on penalties to Portugal in the semis with barely any time left in the window. He knows as well as we do that replacing him will need as much forward planning as humanly possible. As DH has said, this has been on the cards for a few years now and if the club had any brains (lol) they will have been planning for this eventuality from the moment it became clear that this season was a write-off. Knowing them, they've buried their heads in the sand and are hoping it will go away if they just ignore it.

You cannot compare Kane to Berbatov, Modric or the like simply because the amount he has given this club both on and off the pitch totally dwarfs anything they did.

Ivan Toney? Maybe if we were signing him and someone older and more experienced together, but he's largely unproven.

Interesting. Still far more likely those two will spark a bidding war, which will drive up the price.

He's looked immense this season. Him and Raul Jimenez (who has a couple of years left at the very top of his game, subject to his full recovery from that horrendous injury) would be a good shout.

Sell Kane to PSG and take Mbappe in part-exchange, then uses that money to buy Haaland. <ok> Sorted.

In reality we would end up with their 3rd choice keeper and a Tweet from Poch reminding us all that he loves us.

I really like Danny Ings but his fitness issues are a major concern. I think from a finishing perspective he's the best striker that'd be available to us in the Prem but I'm also not sure I'd want us spending circa £30m on someone who could miss a third or so of a season.

Toney could be a decent shout but he's unproven in the Prem, if he was signed alongside another I'd be open too it. CK has mentioned Raul Jimenez a few times, he's a very good striker but I'd be weary of how he is after such a horrific injury. As harsh as it sounds, the injury he sustained could massively play on his mind during games and cause him to maybe do things half-heartedly.

I wouldn't buy into Kane doing this until it all pans out. If you listen to Mason's interview from the SKY reporter it's very clear the reporter is fishing for any scrap of information he can get. Yet their reports (and the Guardian's to their shame IMO) proclaim with huge confidence that Kane has said he wants to go. It's also clear that Mason was under clear instructions from Spurs to say nothing. Kane is also saying nothing again probably under advice. The fact that Spurs are in the middle of negotiations for a new manager has a part to play here. It's not unbelievable that there has been a leak of some kind from the Kane camp (Agent?) but we don't know what or who or even why. There is no reason to believe the reports on Kane any more than if I told you I saw him last week and he told me he wanted to leave. My guess is and it is a complete guess, is Kane's agent is muddying the waters to prevent Levy making promises to a potential new manager on Kane. Any potential manager is going to want to know if he is to manage a team with or without Kane and therein lies the rub.

Makes me wonder if the club are waiting to sort out the manager situation before commenting on this Kane stuff, or at the very least leaking any position to the press.

The PR and messaging from Spurs has been way out of touch for a while now and I think they’re very aware of the fractured relationship the club’s leadership have with the fans. There’s a world of difference between them being able to try to sell a positive vision of the future potentially without Kane under a new manager, and them basically admitting he’s asked to leave and the whole place is on fire.

I think that Levy has to be completely honest with the new manager with regards Kane, as promising that he will be with us at this point would be counter productive, but letting them know that we will only be selling for a world record fee and that if he does go the money will all go back into the team.

As for potential replacements, that would be an impossible job, but someone as to do it! Toney would be a interesting gamble and he will certainly be playing in the premier league next season. I don't watch enough 'foreign' football to really have a view on many overseas players, though I do like the look for Alexander Isak at Sociedad who looks to have the attributes to play in this country. Looking around the premier league I really can't see any player who I would be confident to score the volume we need. Maybe if we keep Son and get Bale back for next season they can form a partnership up top that will go someway to to filling the massive gap in our goals quota with maybe someone like a Dybala (think he is unlikely, but someone of that ilk) coming to play in the holes between them.

I said a week or so back on the New Manager thread that I personally want the new manager to be someone who'll relish the challenge of a potential Kane-less Tottenham, not scared by it. If any manager wants the job on the basis Kane stays then I'd rather avoid them as it shows they don't have mettle or even the faith in their own ability. So if they're told Kane will be going but there'll be possibly £150m plus whatever else we get from deadwood to spend I want them to have the mentality of "yeah, I'm gonna mould this group in my vision and add who I want to make it work".

As for replacing Kane, as you said it's basically impossible. There's no one player who can do what he does, certainly not one who'd join us anyway. So I think it's about signing two or three players to take over the goal and assist mantle whilst adopting a new style of play that obviously isn't down to Harry Kane saving us, lol. If we do keep Bale, then he and Son can get a healthy amount of goals between them, if we can try getting a 15-20 goal a season striker too (Kane is obviously a 30+) that would be good and then I think an Eriksen type to take the assist mantle, there's a lad from Villa I quite like, I've not really mentioned him too much in the past though... <whistle>

The club is currently in the situation come season end akin to :

    - 2013, in that the best player in the squad may be wanting to leave
    - 2014, with a likely EL slot and a decent new manager needed

    Not looking good, is it.

I really need to start learning my lesson.

3 years in a row now I’ve lost to him. Bloody joke. Thanks a lot, Tottenham.
