Morning, crew. How are you??? Nothing for me today but I am really looking forward to seeing what happens at the ‘Horses in Training’ sale as the old day progresses. There is a wodge from Seven Barrows being consigned and the one in particular that I will be keen to see what happens to is old boy Pym. Fascinated to see where he will end up. Away from Seven Barrows am also interested to see what happens to the Frankel 5YO, Home Fire, in 24 hours time. He made such an eye-catching Bumper bow last month at Ayr (in the heat Sprinter Sacre won back in the day). Although I suspect it will take an ‘open the vault bid’ to secure this one… Good luck all.
Yarmouth 1.00 Bumble Berry Young trainer is doing really well this season and this one has hinted a bit of promise on handicap debut at Wolverhampton last time out: "Midfield, pushed along 4f out, some headway over 2f out, soon ridden, no impression from over 1f out" Mark has dropped another few pounds. This bottom weight not ruled out today with Lewis Edmund taking over who has ridden most of stable's winner this season.
1.30 Yarmouth Tolstoy 8/1 Hard to call with these newcomers but a Gosden son of Kingman at 8/1 looked worth a shot.

The 3.20 Ayr looks tricky. I did A La Voile last time and felt she needed the race that day. She faces some of her rivals from that race again today and a case can be made for several of them here. I felt A La Voile was a bit short odds to play today and in such an open race I went out into left field to play small at bigger odds. Astadash needs to find improvement to be involved today but I am intrigued that she is the sole runner to come over the Irish Sea for Jessica Harrington today. That seems a long old poke for nothing and with first time cheek pieces fitted it is hoped she can find something from her previous run. I thought she looked to need that race. She seemed likely to be second that day but faded late and was collared by two others to finish 4th. Some of Harrington's have seemed to need their opener and at 16/1 I felt she might just surprise today. A bit of a dark shot of course but fingers crossed she outruns her price. 3.20 Ayr Astadash 16/1 on only her second start for the yard. Previously with Kevin Prendergast.
2nd place for Astadash. I thought the jockey gave her plenty to do and then had difficulty getting a clear run. When she did get clear she finished well but the bird had flown. Not sure it mattered but I think she would have gone very close with a trouble free passage. Unbelievably the winner was the other one I was thinking about, as she had run in the Ribblesdale and The Oaks last season and was described as perhaps having some untapped potential still. My old pal A La Voile was 3rd and did best of those re-opposing her today. Black Lotus was disappointing. Sadly it looked bad for Anastarsia, who seemed to break down early in the race. Damned good effort from Astadash at 16/1 and I thought for a moment Jessica's filly was going to make the trip from Ireland a winning one. Can't grumble with an 8/1 winner and 16/1 runner up for the two picks today.
After reading the Demi Lovato story, I wonder how long before we have a non-binary horse and in which races "they" will be allowed to run? Stop the world I want to get off .........................
Bit of house-keeping. Pym went for £62,000 and was bought by Dan Astbury/Tim Talbot. Meanwhile, it must be of note that one of the Seven Barrows lots the forum's favourite trainer purchased himself! That was Son of Camus for £10,000. If it runs in his own colours Nicky will swiftly be elevated to the rank of 'forum's favourite owner' as well.
Was quite surprised by this as I thought Home Fire would easily reach 6 figures and, maybe, just maybe, even get close to a quarter of million. I see on the Tattersalls website they are still giving people the option to submit a bid for the 5YO son of Frankel so there is the possibility he could still be sold via the sale. Albeit somewhat belatedly.
New connections would also have the option of transferring him to the Flat. Training Home Fire for such a campaign would certainly be more in keeping with his breeding.
