Can't agree that there is nothing to keep Kane at Spurs. He is within sight of becoming Spurs all time leading goal scorer, that's not nothing. He can be a living legend for Spurs and that will last him a lifetime and beyond. Or ha can go to the mercenary City that most football fans despise and BUY a few titles. We do not remember players by how many trophies they have we remember their exploits on the field. I have no idea what Bale won in Spain for example and it will not be what he is remembered for it will be the goals he scored and the runs he made. Of course in the end when the media keeps on about it Kane himself starts to feel silly not to pursue these false idols and buys into the bollocks. Shame really.
Here's the thing: if a club behaves themselves, deals get done relatively smoothly, for example Modric to Los Ladrones The problem is clubs really can't be arsed to behave themselves hence we get so many tapping-up campaigns every summer, even though these are just as likely to backfire and leave the team with a player on massive money that they can't shift like Barca have been in for a couple of seasons trying to get Coutinho off their books yet nobody is willing to pay the wages
I think you’re viewing this from your perspective as a fan of Tottenham, not the perspective of a player in Kane. We’d love for Kane to be a one club man. We’d love for him to break Greaves’ records. You have no idea what Bale won in Spain but Bale certainly does. Kane’s already a club legend. Players want the big prizes, especially the best players. Kane is one of those best players.
I actually think the Bale situation might have tipped his hand. Bale was welcomed back with open arms and if there had been fans in the stadium would likely have been well received by the majority of the crowd. It’s made Kane realise that leaving to win trophies won’t necessarily ruin his long term legacy at the club in the way that transparently leaving for money would. I said almost exactly the same thing about Bale, in terms of him having the opportunity to stay and become a true legend with Spurs vs just being another star player at another team, in the run-up to him leaving. Ultimately though Harry is more of a Spurs man than Bale I can see why he might want out now. We all know the club is a mess and I doubt that the inside view is much different. I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if he’s seen the Bale reception and thought yeah, I fancy 4/5 years at City, probably win the league every year and have a good tilt at the CL too, smash the PL goals record and come back to Spurs at the end of that contract for a swansong. Don’t get me wrong though I still think there’s a good chance Levy digs in and Kane goes nowhere this summer.
Perhaps there should not be two perspectives in the case of a player like Kane with his 'Made in Tottenham' brand. You're not wrong of course and there is also another perspective gap and that's age. They know price of everything and the value of nothing is a charge often levelled at the post Thatcher people by people of my generation. The point is that we know what has been lost whereas the younger people don't know any different.
That’s actually a really good point RE Bale. Similar can be said of Sherringham and Keane. Both were welcomed back with open arms. And that’s understandable too, as fans of a club you always want to sign top players and if these players were also ones who’d played for your club in the past and held dearly, it adds an extra bit of positivity. Your final paragraph is what I feel is the deciding factor - Levy. If Levy goes full Levy and demands an extortionate amount, I think that’s what keeps Kane at this club. Not Kane’s love for us nor the ambition to be a one a club man etc. He’ll stay because he essentially has/ had no choice.
Some players wouldn't be, though Kyle Walker wouldn't be welcomed back with open arms, because he lied to the fans' faces for months and continues to lie about why he left, hence he can't get his story straight even now - and he's not the only example of a player we can say that about, as we all know who else I'm referring to here On the other hand, Nkoudou wouldn't be welcomed back because he was a bang average player we couldn't get rid of for two years of trying, and winning the Super Lig with Besiktas won't change that
In an ideal world our perspective would be the one that matters. I want nothing more than for Kane to stay, I’d sell the whole team to keep him, Son included. Kane means so much to this club and its fans but ultimately he’s a player that’ll have a level of ambition that I don’t believe Spurs can match any more. When talking of age, I think that’s what makes me believe the stories that Kane does indeed want out are true. He’s 28 in July, his next contract is going to be the biggest one of his career both in terms of finances as it’ll be the last big one (because he really needs the money, lol) and also from an ambition perspective. Whoever he signs his next contract with, it’ll likely be for 5 years and that takes him to around 33/34. At the end of that final contract I’m almost certain he’ll want to have seen success and as much as I’d love for that to be with Tottenham, I just don’t think it’s possible.
Well, of course. But you can’t compare Walker or GKN to Bale or Kane in terms of their status at the club.
absolutely this. Sometimes it frees the shackles of teams, sometimes a new star takes the place. Teams evolve and players then step up or show how poor they are, it could go anyway

Although I agree that potentially being Spurs (and eventually the PL's) all-time leading goalscorer isn't a small feat, Kane has reiterated in several interviews that team honours take precedence over individual achievements. He's won a lot of individual accolades. But it is criminal that a player of his quality, who is soon to be 28, hasn't won anything with this Spurs side. His affinity for Spurs isn't in question - and if he'd won a few cups with you in the past 7 years, he'd probably be inclined to stay - but the great side you had from 2015-2018 has disintegrated. Most existing players from that era have declined. Your expensive new signings haven't lived up to expectation. And the Jose appointment was an expensive failure, too. Your next managerial appointment is still unclear. And you're likely to have a second successive year without Champions League football. His ambitions exceed where you are currently. It can't be easy seeing other teams around him win silverware when it isn't happening at Spurs. Now, I still think he'll be with you beyond this Summer, as I don't think any club will pay the required money for him. Also, dealing with Levy is notoriously difficult. But it is going to be difficult to keep hold of him beyond 2022 IMO, particularly when more clubs will be in a healthier financial position by then.
You are probably right but I follow Spurs always in the hope of a better team playing fantastic football and proving all the critics wrong. We are making progress, it's not that long ago that that the pundits laughed at the prospect of Spurs being top 4, then Pochettino appeared, a manager who most of us had never heard of, oh! BTW he's done quite well at Southampton. He turned Spurs into a top 4 club playing football that even fans of other clubs appreciated. I wasn't expecting his arrival. So around the corner who knows what will happen and it's that unknown that keeps me watching. Make no mistake the new stadium will take Spurs to another level, it's only short term bad luck that it's opening coincides with a world pandemic. Once the crowds return the balance will begin to move in Spurs favour and Kane will just be an affectionate memory. Until then the hope continues and a new season is not far away with a new manager and some new players.
I agree with this bit. I think Kane would’ve been very happy with a couple FA Cups, maybe a League Cup or two and possibly a Europa League and more thus than willing to finish his career here. If that was on his CV right now then 10 years time he can look back and say he won stuff with his boyhood club, broke every goal record at the club, broke Alan Shearer’s record in England... It’d be a fantastic career. But the fact he doesn’t have a single trophy, I don’t believe the individual records will be seen as enough for him.
Again I cannot argue with your main points. The difference in my view is staying at your club and bloody well making it better or hopping off to a land of milk and honey to pick up the spoils. The difference between being a fan and being a modern pro player. If he goes he's off my xmas card list so **** him Not that anyone gets a xmas card from me anyway. Kane who? That's an old film innit?
Will the stadium really take us to a new level? What’s the Emirates done for Arsenal? They were under the impression they’d be challenging the Barca’s and Bayern’s of the world and whilst they’ve picked up a few FA Cups they’ve ended up regressing for many of the seasons since moving there. The new stadium provides added finances but it needs to be spent wisely in order make the club level up.
I agree with this. Equally though, we too will be in a healthier financial position. More so than most clubs. So we may be able to buy our way out of trouble with improvements for next season. Levy would have to have an absolutely blinding window. It all depends on the changes to personnel that can be made in the up coming window. IMHO.
Depends on the owners? Arsenal have US owners interested in profits and they lost their greatest all time manager. We are not going down from such heights and despite what people say about Levy he does care about the football.
