Yes there are no guarantees of wise spending, look how we blew the Bale money but there will be life after Harry and after this season it shouldn't be hard to get better. On the other hand look what happened to Leeds when they sold Cantona
Exactly. We already needed a major rebuild which was going to be problematic. Losing Kane takes the whole thing to another level. Regardless of if Kane stays or goes now, the new managerial appointment has never been so important.
Yeah this news, which personally I’d been expecting, has just made the summer decisions 10x more crucial. We either somehow pull off a Liverpool with the Coutinho money and bag ourselves a van Dijk and Alisson or we prepare to call Crystal Palace our major rivals in the Prem for the next few years
Said it on the Prem board yesterday but I now know why I’ve been getting about 9 emails a week from Spurs trying get me to spend on merchandise and also renew my ST. They want that money in quick before the fans see Kane in a City shirt!
I was thinking about the Coutinho parallel yesterday. To me it just doesn’t exist. Coutinho was a very good player who was unessential to how Klopp wanted them to play. They didn’t want to use him as a 10 and felt he was ineffective out wide in the 433 that Klopp wanted. He also by all accounts went hard to force the move, infamously Nike released the image of his Barca shirt before anything was officially announced. The money was of course used under the watch of a manager with influence and vision as to how he wanted his club to play, and which players were needed to make that happen. A manager who was backed by the board to identify targets to go after with funds from the sale of a big name player. By contrast Kane is the focal point for how we play at Spurs, even when it’s other players (Son, Bale) scoring he’s usually the one getting the assist. We have no manager or DoF in place who can be trusted to implement a successful strategic vision of spending the funds to revive the team either in the short or long term, and Levy isn’t really the best man to do this either. When Liverpool sold Coutinho they were a good side that needed one or two world class players to become a great side under a great coach. We don’t have the manager, the foundations of the squad, or the people trusted behind the scenes to implement a plan. It’s a ****ing mess regardless of Kane going or not but to me, the situations are very different.
As I told DGC at least 43 times before the clattering dullard got put out of our collective misery, the Coutinho comparison is complete bollocks Coutinho was not the main source of Saltypool's goals and considering Norbert uses FBs as the main creative outlet he also wasn't the player who made the team tick, so he was expendable to their system. This does not compare to Harry Kane, who is our main source of goals and has also become a reliable source of assists, meaning the obvious comparison is the summer of Keane/Berbatov And, as DGC seemed hesitant to answer, who would be our main source of goals if Kane left? They game some mealy-mouthed bullshit about Son being the new top scorer, but somehow couldn't answer the obvious question about which player he would be playing off of in order for that to happen. Funny that...
I’d be on board with both of these if there were any truth. Ndicka’s someone I’ve noticed a couple times and looks a solid player with bags of potential, left footer as well which is also a bonus, could possibly replace Vertonghen in that aspect. Kamada seems like one of those silky ballers that you can just enjoy watching, has scored against the goons in the past which is always an added bonus. Plus the last Asian we signed from the Bundesliga didn’t turn out too badly.
Yeah I do agree with that and said similar at the time, they also signed Salah the summer before he left in January who immediately became their key man, the point though was more about how they spent Coutinho’s money wisely, he essentially paid for van Dijk and Alisson.
It’s more about what they done with the money than the actual comparison of player importance. Pool spent that money very nicely, would you trust us to do the same with Kane’s potential windfall? Right now I know I wouldn’t.
Luckily we don't have a DoF to piss away our transfer windfalls like happened the last couple of times
THAT was the point I was alluding too. “We can pull off a Pool with Coutinho money or end up calling Palace our major rivals for the next few years” aka we end up buying Benteke, El Ghazi and McGoldrick with the money!
Bugger, I was about to get onto this Oh well, sod it Bundesliga Randos Watch Bild report we're looking at a pair of Eintracht Frankfurt players, seemingly because we're looking to take advantage of what appears to be their entire backroom staff heading to A German Team come the end of the season First up is Evan N'Dicka, a left-footed CB who came through Auxerre's academy who is composed on the ball, strong off the ball, and as he's 21 he has a lot of youth on his side Secondly is Daichi Kamada, an AM who has been an assist machine this season with 15 assists but he also knows where the goal is with five goals this season, while he bagged 15 when on loan at Sint Truiden a couple of seasons ago, yet he's somehow unheralded in Eintracht's team as Andre Silva, Luka Jovic and Filip Kostic get all the attention Both of them are contracted until 2023, and both of them reportedly have remarkably affordable wages, and when I say "remarkably affordable" I mean if we offered them £20k a week they'd be doubling their weekly salaries ...also we could've bagged the pair for a combined fee of £7m three years ago
Major disappointment? Nope. I gave up on all things positive with Spurs once the Europa league went tits up. Personally I've grown indifferent over this season, but I'm not falling for the hyper pessimism anti-spurs rhetoric that Sky want us to subscribe to. I wouldn't bet on Kane staying either. I'm just highlighting that we have all been brainwashed by the media narrative. The fact that you talk of what Tottenham have been offering him as if he's not part of the team that lost games is also a trick that these media channels use. You may call them reaches, but if he was asked for reasons to stay by his wife, for example, in balanced conversation, to assume he'd say there is absolutely no reason to stay is unrealistically negative. That's all I'm saying. As you said, Levy is a very big reason why he may well stay. Is that a reach? Again with Modric, there was a Chelsea, Berbatov a Man United, Bale a Real Madrid. We know full well that Levy will refuse to sell to a PL club. Who has made a bid even worth Levy considering? Levy always tries to do what he feels is best for the club, if Levy sells to Man City, it'd have to be for so much money that he'd go against his many of his principles. I don't see them coming up with the cash that make Levy ignore the fact that they are rivals. The sky isn't falling down, yet. No pun intended. Whilst Im here, if Harry Redknapp was managing Spurs, do you think that such an interview would have taken place with Jamie sewing the seed questioning his ambition? There wouldn't be. Because there is respect for 'Dad' beyond that which there is for Spurs. Trying to paint Spurs as less ambitious than certain individual players is the first tired cliche that makes my eyes raise skyward. No pun intended again. All of this before a bid? It's boring at this point.
I don’t think anyone’s been brainwashed by any narrative. Some just acknowledge the way the footballing food chain works. As for his wife... she’d just support his decision I’d imagine. Bale was more than happy uprooting his young family to another country, I don’t think Kane would be much different potentially uprooting his to Manchester. We know full well Levy won’t sell to a Prem club? Do we? How do we explain the sales of Carrick and Berbatov? Keane? Walker? We more or less know he won’t sell to Chelsea but we can’t rule out a City or Utd, though Kane would be silly joining the latter. I wouldn’t say Spurs aren’t ambitious but we can’t match Kane’s ambitions. He’s at a stage in his career where he’ll want a league title or two, can Spurs give him that? No, we can’t. Can City? Most definitely. If the bid from City comes in and they meet Levy’s demands, Kane’s gone. It really is that simple, for me at least anyway, there’s nothing at Spurs to keep him here, as much as you may try telling yourself there is.
You are right about the media like Sky trying to pull the strings and agree with you about not getting sucked in. As soon as this media see Spurs with a top player the campaign starts as to who we will be forced to sell him too. There is no balance to this reporting and accepting my personal bias I do witness an anti Spurs agenda. Contrasted with the adoration of City for example.
Carrick had a year left on his contract after we bungled negotiations, so we had little room there Berbatov was literally kidnapped Keane was tapped-up by one of his eight boyhood clubs, yet came crawling back within eighteen months Walker was tapped up and we screwed every last penny out of The Sheikh Mansour Team (although we should've stuck to our guns about including Jadon Sancho in the deal) That's how we explain those sales - while also pointing out that three names on that list count as examples of getting a transfer windfall which the DGCs of the world bang on about while ignoring things such as where these things known as "goals" will come from
We’ll likely screw every last penny out of any side that tries getting Kane. The idea we won’t sell to Prem clubs is incorrect. We will and we have done. We just won’t likely sell to an actual rival.
