that is my understanding of transfer proceedings too in a football set up, wish some people would realise that when they still persist in blaming brown for some of the contracts handed out under duffens leadership.

definatley....mcleans biggest asset is his workrate, but cms matches that, but there ability on the ball is worlds apart.

You're right but surely that's why McLean was a million and a bit and CMS was £2.5m and potentially more, right?

I don't think McLean is a mistake either. He's not the goalscorer we all crave but he's a good quality pest. When you consider that Craig ***an was rated at a million quid 4 yaers ago, I'd say it's fair value.

Im always right!! ha. His work rate cant be doubted but as we have brought in Waggy who is first choice with Matty we have made an almighty mistake paying 1.3 million for a substitute. Bringing in Waggy was a tacit admission by NP that it hadnt worked with Matty and Mclean. dont get me started on Adestrolla- fuk knows what that was about.

    ...and he dropped Fryatt.

Experience and know how. He might only get 1 goal all season but it'll be vital. It's good news that we're not seeing much of him. He's here to save lost games. If we don't see much of him, we're doing well.

Personally I would like to see:
    Basso
    Rosenior, Chester, Hobbs, Dudgeon
    Koren, Cairney, McKenna, Pulsic
    Fryatt, Bradey

Strong CM, decent wingers who can attack as well as deliver, attacking full backs. Brady given free role initially to drop, pick ball up or drift to flanks. Could also drop to 4-2-3-1 if under lots of pressure still giving a good counter attack option

wow thats some crystal ball you have there if you can see Ade doing that. He isnt even making the bench, so god knows how he is going to come on. I dont rate Mclean but while he is a sub, i can not think of a single reason to bring Ade on instead of him.
5 subs: GK, defender, Mclean, Nicky, Mckenna/Evans. We will release him at Xmas.

Looking at the leading scorers in the league this season, £1.3m for Mclean definitely seems poor business, though as has been mentioned, it's probably the only poor business we've done(at least with regard to fees).

Looking at all the players that have scored five or more goals so far this season, there's:

    Ross McCormack £350k
    Ricky Lambert £1m
    Charlie Austin £1.5m
    Kevin Phillipps Free
    Steve Davies £500k
    Ashley Barnes - Naff all

The only two who cost biggish money that also make this list are CMS £2.5m and Marvis Emnes £3.2m(back in 2008).

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

PS - Before anyone points out that I missed off third top scorer Chris Wood, I didn't include any PL players who are currently on loan in the Championship.

Can't help but think Austin could be a five or six million pound player in two to three years .
Wish we'd really pushed the boat out for him but as you say , hindsight and all that .

I think this is the first sensible reading of the Adebola situation I've seen on this board.

And then a few games later Fryatt replaced McLean again.

You're ignoring the bit about him not being able to rescue games when he's not even on the bench then?
