    Or so Fergie claims.

Its all because of the history of the clubs and the two cities.

I can't help but think that if either clubs had seen periods of unsuccessfulness as ourselves and our most beloved neighbours have endured, this fixture would be just as any other.

The fact we in NE can cast doubt to Fergies assertion when by comparison our games only have bragging at stake. LFC/MUFC games often decide where the seasons silverware ends up at.

Plus MCFC, a team who until recently hasn't been a 'contender', only has a false sense of rivalry due to their new found riches. The abundance of teams highlights the lack locality in their derbies in the NW.

Winning creates rivalries anywhere, but the reasons given for why LFC/MUFC is the biggest is down to that alone. Yes, the two cities have history but what Everton, MCFC, or Wigan, Bolton etc.

Its too early to see who the game of the season will be between, as I can't see LFC being anywhere near the top two places.

Ferguson has been playing up the historic LFC rivalry more in recent years to belittle Man City which has clearly been the bigger derby/rivalry match for the last few seasons. Last season he said similar when asked about the Man City derby.

Don't really care about their 'derby', the MUFC and LFC fans always try to claim that it's ' one of the biggest around ', but i would say our derby is bigger because of rivalry and passion. Their 'derby' is big because of success and because the media lick up both of their arses.

    It'll turn into a 1 - 1 dull 1 - 1 draw, but will still been classed as a brilliant game.

The only reason people south of Scotch Corner percieve that to be the biggest game is due to success. That rivalry could occur anywhere, unlike ours.

I suppose it depends on what team you support ask a Norwich fan and he'd say the Norwich v Ipswich fixture,Sheffield - utd v wed,Birmingham Brum v Vile and so on find it quite insulting that anyone thinks the rest of the country would believe this garbage but then again he's hyping a match

How long before Chelsea v Man City will be 'the biggest derby in the land'?

    This <ok>

The amount of arse licking that goes on in the media is unbelievable. They will be analyzing everything for months on Football Focus/Soccer Saturday etc.

The good thing about the Man U v Liverpool game is it fills a Saturday afternnon and is a very good supporting act for the Northeast v North London Super Sunday.

To be honest, I didn't even realise they were playing each other until I done the Argus predictions: so from a personal view it doesn't mean much at all...However, they are both what I term 'media darling clubs', which will mean it will be hyped up to the hilt regardless of the standard of the game...

I have just noticed my source has changed and has now put the game in context of a global scale. I not convinced it is the biggest game in England let alone compared to the likes of R.Madrid Vs Barcelona.

If it is as big as Ferguson suggests, why does he feel the need to hype it up? Probably, as mentioned earlier, to belittle MCFC.

As far as the media is concerned, our derby isn't even worth televising now.

I hate all this 'biggest game of the season' crap. The biggest game of the season is obviously going to differ for who you support. Newcastle v Sunderland is our biggest game, maybe for Man Utd and Pool supporters this is their biggest game. It's probably Sky's biggest game between the 2 teams they brown nose the most!
