Good idea Rokerlad! Personally, I follow some NE journos on twitter to keep up with things, sadly, George Cauklin's musings require a subscription to read (The Times).
Just wondering, what exactly does that facebook thingy at the top of the site do? Is it safe for me to let it access my info?

Morning Ballin, hope you and yours are well?? Will have to be a quick reply for the mo' as I'm "required" for 9 this morning!! I have a real aversion to social networking sites, an open door into peoples lives and security imo. There are wierdo's out there, eg BC <yikes> Caulkins good but refuse to subscribe to Murdochs empire so can't help on that one, but will look to take forward for you. Have to go now, will pick this up later this morning <ok>

On a good note today I had my cable modem replaced today, as sometimes I was only getting just over 20 Mb download speeds. :(

Not good at all on a 50 Mb connection, I was getting sick of VM saying it was my computer.

Just ran a speedtest at what should be VM busiest time.

Date of Speed Test: 2011-02-11 21:15:58
Download Speed: 51303 kbps (6412.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4656 kbps (582 KB/sec transfer rate)

To say I'm chuffed is putting it mildly as when the engineer tested it this afternoon it was 45Mb which is still good and more than acceptable. <ok>

From just over 20 Mb download speeds this morning to 51 Mb this evening, now I'm getting what I have been paying for. <ok>

Unless they offer me an unbelievable deal on their 100 Mb, I'm very happy.

Siddall, can I have a glass of cold water please? The temperature here this week must have been in the mid 30s!

Ballin, I could have used the same when you started complaining of temps in the 30's <cry>, you don't know what it's like to dream of those temps (Celsius rather than Fahrenheit) so I have NO sympathy with you <laugh>

Never got round to saying that I loved that film you used for your avatar, especially that lass with the tat :emoticon-0152-heart

Hitman? As someone who played the first two games, I loved it. Never finished either game, even with my catalogue of cheats... And it's now cloudy, rained the whole night, that should help the dust settle down.

I've got the laptop, as soon as I started it up it asked me if I wanted to create a backup disk <doh>
300 quid from www.acerdirect.com, HD screen, 360gb hard disk, 3 gb memory, AMD graphics card and fairly robust! I'm so chuffed!

Jersey you usually only get one chance to make the backup, make sure it is a brand new unmarked DVD.

Just for the record, MR/JM, it took 3 DVDs when I started up my Acer.

Did it have a restore partition WWY?

Jersey follow WWY's advice and have plenty of DVD's to hand and make sure you don't get fingerprints on them.

A few days ago I was checking some DVD's that had backups of photos, videos etc.
These disks were burnt, verified and put away in cases.
Out of a dozen or so, 2 disks were unreadable, not a mark on them, couldn't read them in 3 separate computers.
I have had to use recovery software to get back a lot of media off those 2 disks.

Ain't got a clue mate. I'm not all that technical! All I know is that I had to burn the disks in case they ever need to be used to "restore factory settings". Seem to recall that it took best part of an hour, too.

Yeah, it was 3 dvds again. It also has a restore partition, so it hopefully won't completely crash!
