31 years ago I was at Newmarket to watch Richard Hannon's Tirol win the 2000 Guineas. On the same day the Owls lost to Forest to seal their relegation. Hopefully lightning won't strike twice but my Uncle Bob has been watching the Owls since the 1970s and he tells me this is worst team he has ever seen <laugh>

What? He's never seen Bolton Wanderers? <laugh> To be fair despite my own lack of faith it seems that we will get promoted soon!

Glad to see Brough Scott agreed with my assertion.

Hollie Doyle must be the most overrated jockey around, seems to fluctuate between being absolutely hopeless and riding 4 timers at wolves during the week.

Frustrating. Came From The Dark had too much in the engine but when she got it blocked my heart sank.

I didnt back it but ive backed her on a few and not been impressed, then when youre not looking shes riding 4 timers, the standard of jockeys on the AW not great, different ball game at Newmarket on a Saturday.

I thought Came From The Dark was unlucky to be slowly away and was then coming with a promising finish but the jockey managed to find herself without a clear run at a crucial stage. Lazuli had a trouble free passage and that made the difference on the day.

I feel Came From The Dark put up another PB today and will probably back him again. It would have been nice to have collected at 11/2 today though.

Well done to those who went with Lazuli. The 3lbs penalty put me off him but he just managed to defy it by a neck and the same.

Another great front running display from Stormy Ireland again since returning to Willie Mullins. You would have to say Concertista underperformed a fair bit with Minella Melody finsining ahead of her today but not sure she was up to that run by Stormy Ireland either way.

Get that guineas right in the bin, that front 3 are rank rotten.

4 of the first 5 race fit, Obriens all completely bombed, something badly wrong with horses just now, Hamdans bombed, looked deep on paper without anything proven top class but have to say that is probably the worst Guineas winner ive seen since ive been into racing, Lucky Vega beat a neck...

The 2000 Guineas was the only race on the whole card run in a time faster than average today. Surely that alone suggests that it cannot be the weakest of renewals.

Only thing it tells you is it was the best time of the day at Newmarket, as you would expect from the only Group 1, doesnt tell you anything about any previous renewals of the race.

The race has not really been anything special for a few years tbf, maybe got unrealistic expectations for it now because its the Guineas.
