My understanding is that all player contracts are actually paid a 13th month of salary to compensate them if they are looking for a new club in July and thus out of contract. The players were asked to play during that period, so while strictly speaking, yes they were getting money in exchange for playing, they were forgoing that 13th month salary (i.e. the month after the season finished last year they would not have received any extra money). Now I could be wrong on this but that's what was reported at the time as being the option most clubs were giving to players.
Lichaj was the sort who when we were flying, was absolutely unreal - I remember some games at the start of last season and indeed under Adkins when we were pushing for play offs where he was instrumental in a lot of our moves that resulted in goals. But when we were average he was very average.
I guess essentially what I was saying. When we looked good, he lifted and looked good too, and when we were average so was he. Wasn't one you would count on to turn a game.
Is it ? Always thought it was strange that Blunderland let local lad, captain and player of the year, George Honeyman go so cheaply too. How many more can you name ?
I'm trying to understand the link you're making between Lichaj and Honeyman, that's all. You seemed to be making a story out of Lichaj leaving Forest and then brought up Honeyman.
I don't seem to be making anything up ? Lichaj was captain at City and left, Lichaj was captain at Forest and left. That isn't making anything up that is fact. I wondered why ? If your fishing, cast your line further out.
Mate, he was simply saying Georgeous George was another player who was Captain for another team but allowed to leave, you're reaching for no reason.
Who votes for these? Good that we got three, thought we may have had more. (Ingram, Docherty, Wilks?) Honeyman should have been player of the season. Still at least the Real Player of the Season McGeady got in. Thank vuk for that. But the one that catches the eye is McCann. Caps a fine redemption after the disastrous relegation season. Pretty much rebuilt a record breaking team after the previous shambles. Surely he should be THE Manager of the Year if they do that sort of thing (not just EFL 1), although predictably Guardiola will probably get that.
There was no reaching. If his point was that other captains also leave with no ill-will then it was an odd one to bring up in a conversation where he was implying Lichaj lacked loyalty. That's all. Nothing else to read into it.
