Bale and Huddlestone were at the club since Jol's tenure

History tells you that your most successful managers have been from
    Yorkshire.
So it’s either Joe Root or Neil Warnock.
Or Chris Wilder - you could do worse than him?

Apparently Bayern have made an approach for Nagelsmann.

So if true, a lot of us may need to pick a new preference for our first choice to take over here.

He’d probably be hoping third time’s a charm for ex-Chelsea managers.

I half want it to be Pardew just to confirm to me this club has fully become Banter FC.

After being stupid enough to pay JM £17m a year and give him a 4 year deal, then cruel enough to threaten to furlough some of the lowest paid staff at the club, then greedy enough to announce we'd joined the ESL, I am waiting for Ryan Griggs to be unveiled

He'd be kicking the tea lady, snagging Levy's Mrs, threatening female journalists and taking out super injunctions on the women's team

we aren’t getting Nagelsmann. He’s the first choice for many fans, which shows how highly he’s regarded. In situations like this, whether it’s a player or a manager, we always end up with the “other” (cheaper) option.
I’ll eat my hat if he doesn’t go to Bayern.

it’s an interesting situation this time round. One where there is 100x the pressure on Levy to get it right with the sacking of Mourinho and the ESL debacle. Things haven’t been this hostile in my 30+ years as a Spurs fan.

and the worrying thing, is there aren’t many options/we are hardly an attractive prospect at the moment, especially for the likes of Brendan Rogers. - why would he leave Leicester?

we could end up with Ten Hag. - although this one feels like a 2021 De Boer version 2.0. - Could be amazing, and I’m not doubting the guy, but I don’t know if we can take the risk.

it’s going to be a Potter/Parker type in my opinion.

personally I’m impressed with Potter, but it’s a big jump for him and we’re a total mess. Yes, he’ll be able to sort out our style of play which will please fans in the short term, but it won’t be long before we’ll raise our expectations again, and it’s whether he’s got it in his locker to get us over the line.

it’s such a mess. No idea what we’re gonna do in all honesty.

I think based over the last couple years, the majority of Spurs fans are probably just desperate to see some good football return, it’s been a solid 2 years now where we’ve been starved of that. Most now acknowledge that the window for trophies has gone for the foreseeable future. We should’ve won something from around 2015-2018 but we didn’t, had the chance in 2019 with the CL final and had the chance yesterday in 2021 too but ultimately it’s hard to see how many more chances we’ll get with this current group of players to lift a pot, maybe the Europa Conference League will be our best bet if we go into that <laugh>. So I think expectations need to be brought down a little, whoever our next manager is will need to understand that “Poch’s Painful rebuild” quotes are legit and we’re gonna have to go through the dreaded “transition” period that we seemingly go through so many times.

We’re in need of a manager who’s up for that sort of challenge, is aware there’s a possibility Kane (and maybe Son) will leave the club and doesn’t see that as a deterrent to take over, in fact relishes the challenge.

I agree that Levy faces a huge decision too and like you I’ve not seen it this hostile at Spurs in a similar timeframe. Fun times, man.

i completely agree, and I’m one of those fans that wants to see some decent football return, and be excited about watching Spurs.
However, I think the patience of the fans has been well and truly tested recently, and once the good football returns, they’ll quickly move to higher expectations.
Can we find a manager who can sort all of this out?
Or are we facing up to 2 years with a “rebuilder” type, followed by a potentially bigger name once the hard graft is done, in order to get us a trophy?

It really feels that we’ve undone the progress we made under Poch and it’s back to square 1 for another 5 years.

Oh yeah, everything's been undone and some I'd say.

I think the reality is we basically need 2014 and 2015 Pochettino all over again. The situations from then and now is basically a carbon copy.

Back in 2014 and 2015 we had:
Expensive flops bought by the previous regime (Soldado, Paulinho etc)
Players who'd seen their best days (Kaboul, Dawson, Lennon etc)
Others who just simply weren't good enough at any point needing to be moved on (Holtby, Stambouli, Naughton etc)

    In 2021 we have:
Expensive flops bought by the previous regime (Sanchez, Ndombele, Lo Celso etc)
Players who'd seen their best days (Dele, Dier, Lamela etc)
Others who just simply weren't good enough at any point needing to be moved (Winks, Doherty etc)

I think in terms of fan expectations should good football return under a new manager, that's something that can be dealt with as and when that happens. Right now the majority of the fanbase feel distant from the club, on and off field performances have been a disaster and most level headed people will appreciate it's going to be a step by step process to hopefully get back to where we were from roughly the years of 2015-2018.

The next manager, whoever that may be, is going to be under intense scrutiny from the start, they're gonna need thick skin, a clear plan and the right philosophy - as well as sufficient backing from those at the top. I almost feel sorry for whoever takes over to be honest because they really will be facing a massively uphill task.

We are not really back to square one though. The stadium is built and ready to go. Despite all the protestation that it did not affect the transfer budget it quite obviously did. Whoever comes in to to do ‘project 2’ should be able push on without the budget restrictions that Poch had.
