Read an interesting interview with Rowan Atkinson in the local rag last weekend as he was promoting Johnny English. Took the kids in to see it and all three of us enjoyed it. Anyway he ruled out any more Mr Beans but he seemed fairly keen on the prospect of another Blackadder series. 22 years after Blackadder Goes Forth (personally I think this was the best one) would anyone like to see another? Or is it best to be left alone as it is? Four quality (no, actually three) quality series. The first one was pretty poor. Or are they all just a tad too old now? And things can be overdone to death?
Nah Blackadder Goes Forth was the best I thought. But it's all a matter of opinion. A bit like The Beatles being a crap boy band really. Just my opinion like.
I read somewhere the other day there are plans to do another series. Bit of a gap since the last one. Never understood why people don't think the first series is as good as the rest. I watched that aged 10 or so when it first came out and loved it from the very start. Me and my best mate were almost tearful come the final episode when he died. Although all subsequent series were excellent, I never thought they matched the sheer brilliance of the first. It was Shakespeare meets Monty Python's Holy Grail with a fantastic cast including Brian Blessed and Peter Cook.
I avoided that one because I suspected it would be mince. Leave it be seems to be the favourite option.
Leave it be and don't ruin its good name. Everything Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton have done since has been utter crap. 'The Thin Blue Line' anyone?
