I'd call it a pretty decent weekend. We didn't lose. West Brom only gained 1 point which doesn't really help them. Brighton lost, keeping them in some level of danger. Sure in an ideal world Newcastle would have lost and Burnley too. But ultimately, as much as I'd like us to go and win our remaining games and finish strongly...it's not going to happen and the only thing that matters now is finishing above that line. And as it stands, we still have that 3 win cushion.
I won’t hold my breath on any result before the end of the season. Yet again teams find fighting spirit to at least make a fist of staying up. Our bunch will go through the motions, but will have to rely on other results.
I think we’ll manage to put together two halves of the same game and win at least one, possibly draw another. And everyone will wonder why they were worried (those that are worried, that is).
Seems weird to say because they're much better than us, but I can see us putting in a performance and beating Leicester on Friday. It's Saints so losing is still more likely of course, but Leicester play tomorrow evening and we've had all the time in the world to prepare for Friday. But the real reason I can see us putting in a performance and winning is because it would be very Saints to do that not long after playing them in a game that actually mattered.
I was staggered by the margin of the Burnley win. It just goes to show again how wildly variant the results have been this season and nothing is at all predictable. WBA need four wins out of five to overtake Saints assuming we win nothing. That is not going to happen. Fulham need three wins and a better goal difference assuming Saints get no more points. They strike me as having the potential but their matches against Burnley, Saints and Man Utd come in a very tight five day period too. We are not safe just yet although it would be a massive shock if we did get relegated. i would like to see us beat Leicester and guarantee safety so that Ralph can try out some of the youngsters with nothing to lose.
You can be almost certain that either their match against us or against Man Utd will be moved to the following midweek. As will all matches in either gameweek 36 or 37. The PL just haven't decided which yet, by all accounts.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56907307 Oh look, Balbuena's red has been overturned Correct decision. The fact the red watched it again and gave red means he should be demoted for a few weeks.
