Judging by how we've done business the last few years, I'm half expecting Kane to be sold whilst Winks and Sissoko get new deals.
Hojberg is massively overrated and seems to escape much criticism. To me it is a key positioning we need to strengthen but we seem to have settled on him or that there are so many other areas to sort first.
I think we have to accept that its time for Harry to move on - he deserves to play in a better team, just imagine how many he would have scored today if he was wearing blue. As long as his departure is part of structured plan that also sees Aurier, Sanchez, Ndombele, Dier, Doherty and Sissoko leave then we have to let go.
Yeah I said when we hired Jose that his appointment bought us one more full year with Harry, as he likely would've been intrigued to work with a manager of that pedigree. This is that full year and Jose's already been sacked. There's nothing here for Harry now. Sure he could be the club's all time scorer if he stays for a few more years and that's nice for us fans but I think 99% of players would rather have on their CV a few league titles and trophies. You hate to admit it but he's massively outgrown this football club, the club's failed to evolve like he has and we have to accept that he likely won't want to be here next season. Whether anyone makes a sufficient enough bid or not will be the deciding factor but I'm almost certain he'll be knocking on Levy's door asking to leave after the Leicester game this season. As for other departures, there's a good few more your list needs - Dele, Lo Celso, Lamela, Winks, possibly Davies too. We're never going to sell that many though so next season we'll still be bemoaning pretty much the same players we've been bemoaning for the last 2 or so years.
I agree the list should be longer but we have to be realistic and whilst I don't disagree with anyone on your list, we have to prioritise the completely useless wastes of space from the just useless (I know you would include Winks, but Sissoko is just worse imo, but its close). Lamela will go of his volition as well. Davies is a strange one because on current form Reggie is not much better and he is a decent reserve; I reckon including a big fee for Harry we can generate over £230m selling these players, crazy really and if we buy sensibly we should be able to keep numbers similar and improve the quality for not much more. Edit - we are not going to improve on Harry btw!!!
I have zero confidence in our ability to "buy sensibly". We have spent £190m on Sanchez, Aurier, Lo Celso, Hojbjerg, Doherty and Ndombele in order to downgrade on Jan, Walker, Eriksen, Wanyama, Trippier and Dembele who cost us the grand total of £60m. Read that back and tell me your eyes don't bleed. Spent £190m to downgrade on £60m.
Up until the last couple months where he's looked uninterested, I've often felt Sissoko could be "okay" as a squad player because he had a level of fitness and physicality that was unrivalled, it was that physicality in 18/19 that saw him named Legends POTY and someone a lot of Spurs fans thought was deserving of Fans POTY which Son ended up winning. At the start of this season I thought he and Hojbjerg done very well as a pairing but as the season went on they both declined, we can discuss reasons/ excuses for why but ultimately their performances have gone downhill. Maybe Sissoko's age is finally catching up with him as he doesn't seem to have that power any more whilst his commitment can be severely questioned, he's been "half hearting" way too many things. Winks has just been a nothing player for me and I've never known someone to have so many excuses made for them. He's here purely because he's HG & CG in my opinion. I truly believe he's an utterly horrendous footballer. Sissoko definitely drives him close but I do feel Sissoko has had his uses at certain periods (he doesn't now), whereas I've never found Winks to have any use. The only reason I mentioned Davies as a possible departure was because if we want Sessegnon to ever begin repaying that £25m, he'll need sufficient games and so with Reguilon, Sessegnon and Davies, someone will barely play. I do actually like Ben, he's limited and offers next to nothing on the front foot but he's a good defender and sometimes that gets massively underappreciated. When Reguilon does erratic things like he done today, it makes you appreciate from a defensive aspect what Davies can bring. Kane's departure with others would raise a significant amount. Buying sensibly though is the problem, we haven't done that for about 5 years now, lol.
I am in a tiny minority but I do not get this "they deserve to win trophies stuff" Kane has played in 3 finals and hasn't scored in any. He has played in the best spurs teams in a generation and was part of us not winning a trophy. I ain't digging at him but I am baffled why some players deserve to leave and others are dicks for leaving. Walker is seen as a dick but Carrick, Bale, Berbatov, Modric and now kane ain't. Personally, I would sell any player who made noises about going. Dier and Toby were not worth keeping, nor was Rose and we will get bugger all for them instead of around £90m 3 yrs ago.
I see the point you're making but I feel you're neglecting the fact that in two of those three finals Kane's been unfit and rushed back
Could we do some exchanging of players with clubbs. Southampton have a couple of players that could start our rebuilding instead of doing a Man City and buying everyone over 50,000. I'm sure you all have a couple of players you've seen that could help us.
Then there is an argument that he should have accepted he ain't fit...and be honest with the managers about it.
That is fair comment Colin, and Kane does deserve some stick if only for declaring himself fit for finals that he wasn't fit for Personally I have never called Walker a dick, though I was less than impressed with the antics of Berbatov, and Modric when the Chelsea move fell through. In my time as a ST holder at GIllingham i never booed a player who left them to 'better himself' and thats just me if a player serves us well and moves on to bigger and better things then in the main I wish them well as long as the don't hold the club to ransom in a ridiculous manner. And for whats its worth I still remember all the players you mention with some affection. Completely off topic - I would add that for anyone who has read Crouchies book I was at Priestfield on the night that the gills fans called out FREAK every time he touched the ball - It was hilarious at the time
Any player, whether it's Kane or not, will always say they're fit for a final. No player will ever want to miss out on that. We hire a medical team and manager to work together to discuss and analyse if a player is fit to play or not, if the manager(s) is solely listening to an eager player, whose fault is it?
Don't disagree...but if he has put his ambitions above the team's I do not see why I can't be irritated by the "he deserves" to win trophies bollocks tbh
You’re doing as well as Liverpool this season. Last season the same Liverpool players were the best team in the world ever. It’s a team game and getting the best out a group of individuals is impossible unless they play as a team. The appointment of a decent manager is more important than any buying or selling. Continuity of selection - especially in defence - and having a defined formation and way of playing are vital. Spurs have a lot of good players on paper - but a dysfunctional team because of Mourinho. I don’t think anyone expected Mason to turn that round in time for a result today. 0-1 was not a disaster
Oh I completely get what you're saying. Not actually saying you're wrong, just that there's others factors at play. I suspect though that many players - whether open about it or not - are selfish in their ambitions, they'll want a team to do well because that means they do well but ultimately every player will want success for themself. Messi wouldn't have stayed at Barcelona all this time if Barcelona were winning (or not winning ) the equivalent of Spurs. Whereas Ronaldo has joined clubs like Utd, Madrid and Juventus because he wants to conquer various countries, that's his personal ambition, he'll want those teams to do well but it's for his own greed, if you see what I mean? And I think Kane is in a position now where for his own personal ambition, he's going to likely want to join a club that gives him the greater chance of fulfilling his personal ambition and I'd presume that's winning a league title and trophies.
pretty sure walker gets **** because he allegedly (the story spurs fans want) asked to leave mid way through the season rather than waiting until the end of the season. This helped to jeopardize and derail the season
