Rooney really gets my goat and in my opinion we shouldn't appeal against the suspension and just leave him out of the Euro 2012 squad entirely. He'll be too old for the World Cup in 2014, so in theory his international career is over and good riddance!

The FA have disgracefully backed Rooney and as reported yesterday offered their full support. It makes my blood boil, it's completely giving out the wrong message.

Why oh why has Sturridge not been given an oppertunity yet? He had a great 1/2 season at Bolton last year and has scored a few this year. Also Micah Richards in my opinion is a very solid option at RB but has also not been given a chance, I though Capello was building a fresh, new England.

FA giving full backing is a terrible move, making it look like they advocate his actions when they shouldn't. Capello's quotes re not playing him in friendlies and maybe leaving him on the bench when he gets back give me confidence as he seems more willing to give youth a chance, but this is Capello we're talking about... The ban does seem a little excessive though as it seems most others get two matches (I think someone pointed out Arshavin before Euro 2008?)

Too old for England in 2014 he'll be 28 approaching his 29th birthday when the World Cup kicks off, compared to the following

    Gerrard 32 ish
    Lampard 33 ish
    Ferdinand 34 ish
    Parker 33 ish
    Barry 33 ish
    Terry over 30
    Cole 30+.

he's a nasty little ****. with a 3 game ban he's on the cusp of not being worth taking.
I'd appeal and if it is increased he's off the plane - simples.
when will these over paid ****ers realise it is a privilege to play for your country and stop setting such bad examples.

Disappointing and very harsh punishment. I'd be fine if they were consistent in their approach but they are not. Arshavin committed exactly the same offence prior to another major tournament, the Russian golden boy receiving only a two game ban. UEFA would probably argue that Rooney has history but the reality is his discpline has improved markedly over the last few years. Still hugely disappointed with his reaction but in all honesty it was just a tap. He needs to learn but there is no way I'd consider leaving him out. He is just far too good. It would be a risk giving him a place when you can't use him but I think he is worth the trouble.

As for some of the other comments about Ashley Cole and Baines, its not even a contest. Cole is still one of the best left backs in the world and still in great condition. He performs out of his skin for England and is one of the few to transfer his club form to the national stage. He is much maligned because of his media image, but he is sound pro. Baines is a very good left back but Cole is world class and would be taken by Europes elite if made available. He also was one of the only players to leave with some credit at the last WC.

As far as I'm concerned, he lashed out, got a deserved red and that should be a 3 match ban (as should all straight reds).

I gotta say it's harsh on Rooney. 3 games come on? That's what that birmingham player got for breaking eduardos leg. Seriously, 1 game would have been enough, even just the sending of and leave it at that. Sure he kicked out at the guy but it wasn't violent conduct. Amazing how the FA and UEFA/Fifa don't get along, they must hate each other. There's no way Villa or Torres or Özil would have been given a 2 match, yet along a 3 match ban. That's ridiculous. It's Capello's fault for playing rooney, everyone knows Rooney, what did he expect?

    What? What's that?

    Rooney is a silly boy...

    wow, Fabio, don't you say...

Basically, Rooney is one of the top 6 players in europe, and the only englishman in the top 20. (I'd say, messi, xavi, Özil, villa, ronaldo, rooney). And he's gonna miss the tournament. It's likely England will go out, it's the EC, you can get spain and france and sweden in one group. And is it fair to take rooney if he can't play till the quarter finals, and when you get to the quarter finals which means you've been successful you drop someone for rooney? What a shambles. Rooney is a great player, and he is fun to watch, it's a shame.

The FA are going to appeal, does that mean he can get an extra match when they deem it frivilous? Also, remember when Newcastle got Bowyer and he had a six game european ban so we never selected him for six games then uefa said they didnt count so he had to sit out another six; does Rooney have to be selected to be banned?

Add Iniesta, Robben and Sneijder ahead of Rooney.

I reckon Capello's going to take Rooney. I can just imagine if England get to the quarters (and it's a big 'if') and Rooney gets picked. He will be unbelievably hyped up and going ballistic, not to say full of bitterness. If he got through 90 mins without clattering somebody it would be a miracle.

Deserves the 3 game ban, if he was to do the same on the last day of the PL season he'd be banned for the first 3 games of next season so rightly it's the same for the Euro's.
