Hard to fancy anything for the Derby after that trial. I had mentioned that I didn't think Alenquer should be the outsider but talked myself into Belloccio instead.

Belloccio looked ill at ease on the ground today and was always working harder to stay in touch than you want to see. He was running to see if he might be a French Derby horse but unless he transforms heavily for being on mud, he didn't look as if he has the talent for that level.

Etonian looks a horse who hasn't trained on. Richard Hannon had said that his work suggested that 10F was his trip now but the ITV teamed commented that he didn't look like a middle distance horse. He sat at the back and never got involved. He seems a lost horse now. what is his trip and what talent does he retain? That stunning debut win from One Ruler looks like a dream sequence now. Did it actually happen or was it a Covid fantasy?

I thought going in that the betting suggested Yibir and Adayar were close in ability and it surely panned out that way. Both ran respectably but seem a bit short of top class. Adayar looks the better prospect of going up in trip and he has less miles on the clock.

I wasn't seeing it at all with Trawlerman and the stable had considered running him in a Handicap at this meeting. That looks his sphere to be perfectly frank and he's another that can be crossed off the Derby list now.I couldn't believe my eyes when a saw someone talking Irish Legend up. He looked to have miles to go to even have a shout of a place today and his Derby supplement was wasted cash. The owner has more horses with Palmer this season and they all carry the name Legend as the second half of their title. This one would have been better served called Irish Pipedream.

Aidan's colt was never involved and yet again his representative has looked second rate. The way Arturo Toscanini ran in the Feilden saw me switching tack and opposing everything of Aidan's and it has been like shelling peas getting them beat. There has to be a turn of the tide soon and Chester will be key I feel. High Definition looks a ridiculous proposition at his current odds, with his form getting more ragged looking by the minute.

Lone Eagle ran OK on ground that may have seen more used made of him to keep tabs, he petered out a bit but did much better than old rival Recovery Run. The Balding horse was very disappointing and the trainer has had a few stinkers this past few days. Both of the Zetland Stakes runners were pushed out in the Derby betting, which is littered with no-hopers and horses who are way shorter than they should be.

Great shout Bustino with Alanquer, who came in with the same rating as the original 2/1 Fav Yibir.

I don’t think anyone needs a shout about an odds on shot.

I’ve been at a zoo all day so not been on, shame really but such is life.

A disappointing set of fields for good races. The fillies race and last handicap have usually had good competitive fields. This wasn't the case today. The fillies race used to be a maiden and some good fillies have won it including an Oaks winner. The last handicap used to be farmed by Stoute and Gosden: neither had a runner today. This race has featured some useful horses: Jack Hobbs and Conduit spring to mind. No idea how todays' runners will feature in the future.
Firm ground is starting to cause these small fields I guess. That so many horses cannot handle good to firm ground is a disgrace. We are seeing horses bred that are a lot of softies (pun intended). Get the hose out at Epsom so that the Galileos can win.

The "as yet" was probably superfluous. Ran as green as grass apparently so remains a ????

We can forget Trawlerman. I hope something comes out to excite us soon, otherwise the Derby is not likely to produce the Arc winner

Waldkonig seemed to get back on track today. It was a huge priced golden oldie who followed him home though and Hukum was a bit disappointing today.

I said last season that the Dante looked well below average and I also said that Highest Ground looked like he needed dropping from his 111 handicap mark. The assessor probably decided to let a poor run slide because of the soft going but he had better ground today and was thumped 12 lengths in all and finished more than 4 and a half lengths behind a horse rated 98. That Handicap rating of 111 for Highest Ground looks inflated to me and his Dante conqueror Thunderous was also out with the washing today. Not one runner from last year's Dante has managed to place in a race in nine subsequent attempts and we can only hope this year's renewal is a bit stronger. I am not sure the signs are good though.

With a few disappointing efforts in behind, I am not sure Walkdkonig had a very stern test today but at least he is back in winning form after some problems last season.

Well done to everyone who got winners today.

I find it even more bizarre that people who are sometimes too busy to post on the forum, still manage to find the time to post to make snide comments (maybe not so snide) about other posts on here, then start moaning when they are replied to. :emoticon-0112-wonde :emoticon-0112-wonde

Maybe some people aren't so busy, or have so much of a life as they claim? :bandit:
