The same players who have for 4 seasons, started the season well and ended the season badly, the same players who have only won 55 out of their last 156 league games. Yes it's the same players but the same players who are and have never been consistent and never will be but you would keep most of them. Explain if this is a decent squad how LJ, Holden and now Pearson and god knows how many coaches have all failed to make them consistent? simple question.
Yes, that's what I'm saying that's why he took a while to settle.........he would learn less by going to league 1......he required game time here, hence why LJ & co played him........he's not a child learning his trade....he already has the ability and better players would bring that out.......putting him in lower leagues would have done him no good at all...... Ronaldo......you think he would have developed his game by dropping down to league one or championship rather than play for Man U? It's a nonsense... Only if they are not good enough would you do that..I believe Massengo is
I have explained many times.....just going around in circles, which you seem to like doing..... There are some players I would let go......but quite a few I would keep and build around....
You have not explained how you still maintain that we have a 'decent' squad when there is not a shred of evidence to support that view. LJ, Holden and now Pearson and a whole host of coaches have failed in that regard and could not make them consistent (the hallmark of a decent team) and please don't say we won a few here and few there.
Now you've described him better than I ever could he was a Brated little bloke..... thank god we gave him the sack.
Very strange, that we can bang in 3 against the likes of Swansea, Middlesbrough (who were inform at the time) & Birmingham but then be dreadful against the likes of Rotherham & Wycombe (god I know you're gonna go on one now....55 wins form 156 games blah blah)...........shows that they are capable, just not consistent no matter what you say.. If NP stays we will see what of the squad he keeps and the ones that are dropped...I believe most of the players I've mentioned before, that I like, will still be with us next season....
1For A few early dead cat games absolutely doesn't show they're 'capable'. Since then the results show how incapable they really are - and they're getting worse.
Yet again we disagree, it shows that they are capable (like if in cup games) and was against decent opposition...... but grant you, not consistent...... Getting worse is true.....we should be getting better performances...
Looking back over the last 10 years or so, I can only think of ONE season that we were consistent (consistently GOOD that is) and that was our promotion season under Cotts - which went sour for him as soon as we kicked off in the Championship. Unless you label some of the 'streaks' under LJ as consistency (both good and bad), then we have been consistently INconsistent for all the rest of the time. This curse has transcended multiple managers and players - it seems to be a BS3 thing......... the only constant being Steve Lansdown.
Not strange at all remind me how many Villa put past the league champions earlier in the season. But at least we have made progress in this discussion, so if you are saying our decent/capable squad are not the problem, then the blame can only lie with LJ, Holden, Pearson and an army of coaches, for our poor record over several seasons, thanks for clearing that one up.
Without wishing to labour the point, you must agree our continuing demise can only be attributed to the quality of players left by Johnson.
But he didn't leave us 65 players in one go that were, as you say crap did he? And that was over a course of 4 years... Out of what he left us since his departure , I still believe NP (if he stays) will keep a good number of...........and build around them.
The only ones to build around are:- Bentley Semenyo Kalas Vyner Bakinson Massengo Palmer Moore + the 6 to 8 young players coming through. Wells If he shows more commitment. DaSilva Martin Walsh ODowda Weimann Williams If they can all prove their fitness. To Go Hunt Simply not good enough. Nagy His heart is not in it, doesn't look fit. Baker Injury prone, alleged to be 2nd or 3rd highest earner at 25k a week. Diedhiou Simply not good enough, stopped putting in effort in February. Paterson Weak, inconsistent and has become injury prone. Watkins Simply not good enough and has become injury prone. Lansbury Wholly disappointing, commits too many fouls and passing is poor. Mariappa Past it (possible coach?) Rowe Past it. Simpson Past it. Adelakum Cheap option, another not good enough. Sessegnon After Wednesday nights **** show, not good enough. Gilmartin Another possible coaching option? That is my opinion based on what I have seen this season and most of last season.
I think he has become a marmite player, our midfield is weak enough, bullied by every Tom, Dick and Harry in this league for me he weakens midfield, he can't tackle, cannot spot and deal with midfield runners and is far too inconsistent and has become injury prone. But hey I am aware some people rate him and that is fair enough.
One thing is n his favour he does have a goal or two in him, many of our midfield don’t which is a worry
Maybe, but I think any added weakness to an already weak midfield isn't worth the risk for 3 goals in 19 games, IMHO in those games he played well twice + 2 long injury periods. Hopefully Bakinson can be that person.
