Johnson has perfected piffle paffel wiffel waffel. I don't remember spaffer giving a coherent, direct answer to any question.

Perhaps the PM has been to the John Prescott workshops on how to avoid giving any kind of answer to a question. Many years ago, I was listening to Prescott being interviewed by John Humphries on the Today programme in which the questions were rather challenging with Prescott avoiding giving an kind of answer. He got a bit fed up with Humphries persistent questioning by suggesting to Humphries that he should have been questioning him about what a fantastic job the then Labour Government had done with investment in schools, hospitals and so forth.

I was wondering whether anyone genuinely thought that fans would be able to attend football matches against in August? There was talk last autumn of allowing fans for certain matches like League Cup ties but circumstances overtook this and it was pretty clear that the second wave would have scuppered the plans. The few games in December offered a rare glimpse of hope but it did feel like it was a temporary, one-off opportunity that had to be taken when I got my ticket. The scientists are now suggesting a third wave in July / August /September and the cancellation of events such a Boomtown is making me sceptical that fans will get back in at the beginning of 21/22.

I know that the vaccine has improved circumstances yet everything that has previously been set as a target for lessening the measures against Covid either seem to get postponed or prove too risky either from a safety or economic point of view given the cost of insurance. My impression is not too favourable. I have tickets for numerous events this summer such as The Globe, Lords, The Oval and T20 yet I keep seeing other events running at the same time now being pulled. The non-league clubs locally are playing behind closed doors and I am not sure if St Cross are allowing visitors in to watch the cricket which I noticed was being played last weekend.

Generally, despite the vaccines, there seems to be a lack of confidence about venues with large numbers. My bet is that it will be fan restrictions at best. Not expecting full stadia until the tail end of 2022, if I am honest, The lack of correspondence from Saints is perhaps indicative they they are thinking along the same lines. Was anyone genuinely expecting to be watching football at a packed St Mary's next season?

Not me Ian. I get my first jab next Thursday second on 3rd June I don't consider that make it safe for me, as a vulnerable person to travel and attend crowded events. So far as I understand vaccination doesn't stop someone transmitting the virus. News of variants, mutations call them what you will is breaking daily and many scientists are concerned to say the least. We're desperate to travel from the Netherlands to England and Indonesia to see family and friends we're missing dearly. Seeing a match, going to a gig or two having dinner out doing the things we took for granted not that long ago is away downstream for us. Although some outdoor bars and restos will be opening but in controlled conditions.

Now for the good news. The Affligem range of beers and some ciders are 2-4-1 and Mrs Jab is busy cooking ayam rica-rica a chicken dish from Manado in Sulawesi plenty ginger garlic and chilli. The weather looks set fair for a BBQ over the weekend sardines at the ready.

We have to make the best of what we've got and give some thought to those less fortunate than ourselves. Oh Mrs Jab in need of a G&T s'later.

Yeah I reckon fans will be in by August. At least at 50% capacity anyway.

Fans will be allowed in at least 75% capacity next season IMO. You may need proof of vaccination or a negative test, but fans will be back at a good level. Life is for living!

I must admit when we went back last year we weren’t ready. I went, but it didn’t few right.

Next season we’ll be close to normal IMO.

I was really hoping that there would have been a return to relatively normal this summer. In the New Year I was expecting that the vaccine situation would have permitted the cricket to be on and that we might have seen some football in April akin to what happened in December. I am not so sure now. Loads of places are opening on. Luckily, the ticket for The Globe I bought for 2020 will get used this August and i received an e-mail this week about the new British Museum exhibitions which open in May. (Really tempted by the one of Nero.) However, indoor venue still seem unlikely. Turner Sims are still having on line gigs and a number of festivals have been pulled due to insurance issues. In my mind, I keep trying to ascertain what events have the greatest risk to the public and the greatest financial risk to the event organisers to imagine what will be on as far as the next six months are concerned. I think that football matches are the biggest risk except in the lower tiers of the game. i do not envisage Non-league being cancelled next season.

Got to agree about Affligem. I have enjoyed their beers when I have been in France. As someone who is passionate about historic, I am always amused by the claims that the beer has been brewed since 1100 and something. I think that the dates are more likely to relate to the foundation of an abbey and the beer production claims are a bit enthusiastic

There's a relaxation over here from 28th, next Thursday, albeit with restrictions. https://www.government.nl/topics/co...s-will-partially-reopen-evening-curfew-lifted . The indoor museums and exhibitions remain closed. If all goes well the second stage starts at the earliest 11th May more outdoor venues, zoos and amusement parks etc open. All the distancing and mask rules still apply but the discipline in many places is poor hence the continued high levels of infection and numbers in ICU.

We shelved our travel plans and bought a canal cruiser comfertable enough for a couple of weeks or more we'll see plenty of the Dutch waterways this year. That's our new normal, international travel and footy away off yet. I'd started researching going by train, bus and sea to Indonesia. I'm hoping eventually to do the trip but when and if I'll still be able may put paid to that

Had a few Affligem blondes last night after a couple of La Chouffe take aways from our local, Hoegaarden Witte for Mrs Jab, both on tap, can't use the terrace seating and tables but there's places to sit nearby with plenty of room to stay safe. Strong beers they need to be approached with caution Palm beer my usual tipple..

Absolutely super win for Pompey today, smashing the mighty Gas out of sight! ( 1-0 these days is a fabulous victory for PFC.)

Both look like missing out to Oxford and Blackpool. Frankly, neither are good enough for the Championship.

Charlton have two games on Oxford though I believe. Could be crucial.

If they are away, they are in with a shout. It is their home form that has let them down. They scored 6 in midweek at Plymouth but continue firing blanks at the Valley. If I take off my blue tinted spectacles, I would like Lincoln to secure the third promotion place.

I've only just seen that Derby and Sheff Weds play each other on the last day. So if Sheff Weds can pick up at least one more point than Derby next weekend, the winner on the final day will finish the higher.

(But whether that's 21st and survival, or 22nd and relegation, would of course depend on Rotherham.)
