    It's going to be interesting seeing what happens and as much as I have opinions I'm not going to read through the rule book and give it large on here about the rights and wrongs of how how any punishment is applied. The owners ****ed up and we're going to have to live with the consequences. Strange times for our club, winning the PL and not being able to properly celebrate it then this Covid season and now we're probably going to go into next season with a point deduction and financial restrictions. Some higher being is having a laugh.

    actually here is the fun thing, can you outline exactly how the premier league rules have been broken?

    • the rule breach:

    L.9
    Except with the prior written approval of the Board, during the Season a Club shall
    not enter or play its senior men’s first team in any competition other than
    :
    L.9.1. the UEFA Champions League;
    L.9.2. the UEFA Europa League;
    L.9.3. the F.A. Cup;
    L.9.4. the F.A. Community Shield;
    L.9.5. the Football League Cup; or
    L.9.6. competitions sanctioned by the County Association of which it is a member

    thats it.

    the the same section L10 says clubs must enter the FA cup.

    • what is the defined punishment?

    there is guidance given for section L this guidance is really just a set of minor rules and minor punishments including for postponed games.

    My view is this:

    this means there is no precendence, nor guidance to papply a punishment for joiningg another competiion but not playing in it. this is why the FA are in a quandry and the 14 opportunists (and they are) don't know what to do.

    the know full well the minite they try make up a sanction they can be in court over it. why? not over the rule breach but over the fact there is no punishment in the rules nor guidance. In these cases its perfectly logical that a court of law would have to go over the in and outs of everything and view is the sanction was fair.

    What we are really seeing is a bunch of opportunists trying to grab somehting for themselves. They want to influence the next tv deal for themselves. nothing really more.

    Talk of punishing indivduals (patently stupid) they want to target faces now owners from the clubs. Yet a new face can be inserted and the same seeminly sensitive information be taken back to the scabs.
    talk of quickly bringing back into the fold (policial talk that really means they know the 6 scabs are needed)

    we need to get ****ing real here. We are talking about owners like gold and sullivan et al here. they would jump at the same money if offered and we all know it.

    There won't be points deductions. there won't be massive fines, there won't be a situation where ****ty midtable clubs get to run all the committees. what the premier league is looking for is some emans to set a precedent.

    You will not the premier legaue has met 3 times so far already with the only outcome a rejection of the super league.

    Points penalty: fans and players are affected > owners
    Heavy fines: owners > fans

    I hated the idea of the ESL, and I'd love to see some appropriate punishment brought to bear, but I think mito is right here. We know that these billionaire owners don't just meekly take anything lying down, so unless there's a cast-iron rule-break their lawyers will be all over it.
    I haven't read the rule book, but on the face of it I can't see what PL rules have been broken. Being a bunch of devious, selfish pricks isn't a crime unfortunately, if it was the people who run football would be in the slammer with them.
    Rightly or wrongly, as a global brand the PL is screwed without those 6, so will it take the risk of alienating them further just to hand out a punishment which would most likely only have short-term repercussions on them anyway?
    Also - and I know this has been covered, but - any punishment will penalise the managers, players and fans and because their collective adverse reaction was the main instrument in scuppering the deal it seems especially unfair on them.
    In the past, clubs took their punishments generally as handed out, but in recent years we've seen a more litigious tendency from belligerent owners, so the PL would have to tread very carefully.
    I could be wrong, they might think of something, but don't be surprised if all we see is a bit of self-righteous posturing, a collective tut-tut don't-do-it-again and some sort of token penalty.

    They literally all signed a 177 page contract to enter their clubs into a SL that would start ASAP that they had not even spoken to the PL board about, let alone had permission to enter it. The PL have since voted on it and refused permission btw.

    The PL suggest they have all also broken rule B15 btw. Read back, I explained this on the previous page and the process for deciding their guilt or otherwise.

    14 opportunists!!! You can't be serious. It is abundantly evident as to who the "opportunists" are in this mess and you only need two hands to count them on (unless you're from Sunderland in which case only one hand is needed)

    Six Clubs blatantly breach the Rules including the one relating to acting in good faith to each other and try and end the pyramid system to their own advantage and the 14 Clubs are the opportunists. I think you have clearly misread the situation.

    There has to be a punishment and unfortunately fans usually get affected as a consequence. But you can't have a clear power/money grab such as this go unpunished. I agree that the degree of punishment has to be very carefully considered to get a "just" outcome which is why an independent enquiry digging into this whole sordid mess is a good initial step to get to the bottom of what's gone on. But please don't cloud the picture as to who is to blame.

    As will most other fans of clubs not effected - or so they think
    However it’s a thin line
    I am not saying where my personal opinion is in this
    I just don’t think it’s as straightforward as others are suggesting
    I would need to see and understand the rule/rules they have broken
    With overspending etc you as a club are clearing gaining a benefit and that is why you are punished

    in its simplest guise to me it looks like some twats got together to try and get more money for their business
    Messed it up and didn’t get away with it
    So not sure what the punishment would be for as they ha e supposedly been removed from varying committees so I just need more information I think :)

    Indeed, better to know the facts before throwing absolute opinion out there.
