Can’t resist - sorry for that
The EU has shown itself at its worst in 2021 - typical complacency and when it doesn’t go its way, it gets nasty. Wrong people at the helm.
I still have the burning question that one day I will get answered -
Why has the “ Western world “ been so adamant in not firstly banning travel between countries and secondly having no control of this travel?
    It really beggars belief.

BS if they want to justify it as essential business travel.

Having my vaccine tomorrow at last.

The timing is great as just started working with the public again. Not sure which one they are giving me. I'll take anything at this stage.

    Good news mate.
Don't forget it takes 2-3 weeks before you'll have some protection.

Great news, well done. Remember the raised temperature and headache is the most common side effect. Read the leaflet they gave you, just to be sure.

Unconfirmed reports of a triple mutation of the virus in India called the Bengal strain. Should have closed the borders to India much sooner, it will likely be already in the UK!

Took the Rapid Antigen Test today along with the missus, fairly straightforward if a bit fiddly. Both were negative and we'll be doing that twice a week as I'm now back working for AddyLee again after a year of reluctant retirement. It's worth doing the test as so many have the virus without symptoms but I'm a lot less apprehensive now I've had the vax...

How is the work in hackneys/taxis now?

Talking to one or two of the lads over here who I know, they say the night time work is gone completely with no pubs/nightclubs open. The lads who I know who worked nights are all out during the day queueing on ranks. Hard times for the taxi industry.

Best of luck getting back into it.

Nowhere near normal for sure. They rang me just before Easter and asked me if I would return so I thought I'd see how it goes but earnings probably half of pre-virus levels and it's dead after 10.00 a.m. I had intended to work up till July this year before the virus struck but that year out has cost me £12-15k which put a big hole in my retirement plans so the next couple of weeks will help me decide whether to renew my licence or call it a day for good. I know a couple of black cab drivers that have jacked it in and the number of them on the road has dropped by a quarter in 12 months. I don't think we'll get anywhere near our old level of earnings in the foreseeable future...

image captionReal Pfizer doses are being administered in Mexico's vaccine rollout
US pharmaceutical company Pfizer says it has identified counterfeit versions of its coronavirus vaccine in Mexico and Poland.

The doses were seized by authorities in the two countries and confirmed by tests to be fake.

In Mexico, they had false labels, while the substance in Poland was believed to be anti-wrinkle treatment, Pfizer said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that fake vaccines "pose a serious risk to global public health".

It has called for them to be identified and removed from circulation.

Poland's health minister on Wednesday stressed that the risk of counterfeit doses appearing in official circulation was "practically non-existent".

What do we know about the fake doses?
The counterfeit doses were seized by authorities in separate investigations in the two countries.

About 80 people at a clinic in Mexico received a fake version of the drug, which appeared to have been physically harmless but offered no protection against coronavirus, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Mexico's government spokesman on Covid-19, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, said the fake vaccines had been detected by cyber police after being offered on social networks for up to $2,500 (£1,800) a shot. Several people have been arrested.

Polish authorities said no one had received counterfeit doses seized at a man's apartment.

Lev Kubiak, Pfizer's head of global security, said the global demand for the vaccine and shortfall in supply had led to the scam.

"We have a very limited supply, a supply that will increase as we ramp up and other companies enter the vaccine space. In the interim, there is a perfect opportunity for criminals," he told the WSJ.

The US Department of Justice told ABC News it was aware of the counterfeit vaccines identified in Mexico and Poland, and would support local authorities and Pfizer "as needed".

Researchers told the BBC in March that they had seen a "sharp increase" in vaccine-related darknet adverts, with Covid-19 vaccines, vaccine passports and faked negative test papers being sold.

I had it wrong in earlier lockdowns, clamouring for everything to open up sooner than it's now plain would have been safe, but in the most recent lockdown I became almost institutionalised - not bothered too much about being locked up. Now things are opening up and I've been to the pub a couple of times I have a kind of twitchy feeling that I should be out all the time. Weird times.

Ok...in the context of whether the AZ vaccine was safe or not that people debated on here a few weeks back, I thought it would be worth pointing out.
