Well they saved money on the sign, which was being waved around Wembley a few years ago, so may as well spend the savings...
If they broke any rules they should be sanctioned according to the rules. However I suspect they didn't. Being ****s isn't forbidden by the rules as far as I know.
"Punish" them by making things fairer and introducing the 50+1 rule from Germany. Give fans a louder voice and this sort of crap will be much harder to introduce, so ****ty owners will be more likely to piss off.
Imho the thing that made them back down was their own fans protesting. None of the 6 clubs expected their fans to react so angrily. This and the furlough issue has pushed me so far away from the club that has been a huge part of my life for just under 50 years. Levy needs to be removed imho. His judgement on these two issues has been shocking (and that's ignoring employing JM). This is the 2nd time in 10 months that I have had to contact the club to protest. It's shocking behaviour that has left a nasty stain on our club.
And this is why I should never be given power of any kind...I am all for vengeance...full on spiteful, hate filled vengeance. "You may not have broken a rule mofo but you did piss me off "
It tells you a lot about the mindset of all these clubs who are owned by people with no experience of or connection to the history and traditions of English football. All our major clubs are foreign owned because they represent investment opportunities. With some, it might be something of an ego trip, but for the majority it’s a money making project. These attitudes and values are so disconnected from the hardcore fan base of all these clubs. Whether you support bottom of the league Grimsby or top of the league City, the genuine fans feel the same emotions and would support their club whether they are worth a billion or are bankrupt. It’s not about money for fans, however essential money has become to bring successful over the past few decades. With or without money, the common denominator is the belief or hope that your club can defy all odds and succeed. The money men behind our top clubs don’t get that. They don’t understand the irrationality of it all because it’s a passion, not a business. Sunderland v Portsmouth in a League One play-off game would (in normal times) get many more fans through the gates than a lot of the proposed ESL matches. They badly misjudged it.
Today's favourite non sequitur, if Wigan were deducted points for going into administration and fans of The Satanic Six didn't complain, then fans of The Satanic Six can't complain if their clubs are docked points for something completely different As I said, I absolutely did not support the club's decision - but the hysterical shrieking from UEFA, Sky, The FA, rival fans and the Lunatic Fringe has been so utterly farcical that it cannot be taken seriously and shows just how impotent or incompetent they all are
It would still be a ****ing mess. It has been for decades. Hibs and Hearts have so many advantages over virtually everyone else in it, barring maybe Aberdeen. The location, crowd sizes, traditional support, stadiums... all miles ahead of their opposition. What happens? They get relegated. The SPL attendances compare with those of League Two, outside of the main two. The Dundee clubs normally boost it a bit, but they both went down for a bit, too. ****ing ludicrous.
Hearts don't, given they're not even in the SPL this season The main argument for keeping the Old Firm in the SPL has always been they boost the gate for the other clubs, effectively using the same "Won't somebody think of the grassroots?" line Perez used but for the likes of Livingstone or St Johnstone, and the other one being how Sky view the entire league as Old Firm +10 to the point where their opponents don't even get mentioned in the advertising which means the only Sky cash that clubs ever get is when they're being led out to the slaughter which is a nightmare version of the prism Sky see the Premier League which means no Old Firm means considerably less Sky cash The only positive to this arrangement is the other clubs haven't picked up a bad case of Stockholm Syndrome about this, unlike Bundesliga clubs who certainly have
How much cash do the SPL clubs get from Sky anyway, given that their overall revenue is under £15m per club? A couple of million each, if they're lucky? They can't sell alcohol in the grounds, IIRC, so they're utterly hamstrung by that, for a start. Even City haven't bothered to steal a club up there, which says a lot. There's a great opportunity in Edinburgh...
Surely the argument for keeping them in the SPL is so that UEFA don't insist on a UK team, rather than the 4 we have now for international football?
There's already plenty of teams playing in another country's league without threats of annihilating national teams Swansea, Cardiff, Newport and Wrexham play in the English league Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver all play in the MLS Wellington play in the A-League Berwick play in the Scottish league The New Saints play in the Welsh league in spite being based in Oswestry Gretna used to play in the English league Lichtensteinian teams all play in the Swiss league Looks like all UEFA have is idle threats that don't stack up
