Project Big Picture..... The more I think about that, the more it boils my piss. It annoyed me at the time, as it was a blatantly obvious power grab, but now all of this has come out, it was obviously Stage 1 in their plan, which had it succeeded would have meant the ESL would be happening and there’d be absolute **** all anyone here could have done about it.
No it's to get games on at times to suit those regions. Do you really give a flying f about having a game at Saturday at noon? I dont. The spanish started doing it only after demand from Asia drove them to. It make zero sense for any away fan. You have the situation that they have to get up in the middle of the night or whatever or on the other end miss the last train home. Covid has now opened up 8pm kick offs as well and fans are certainly not thought of there
Yup makes sense. This esl could not have been designed in 3 months so project big picture had to be the opening gambit. I cant believe however they are that thick that if phase 1 of divide and conquer failed that they pushed on with phase 2. Moronic
Used to love that Italian highlight show. Was it on c4? Yes it was under exposed but you are talking like a businessman about it Cant criticise today's businesses for trying the game thing on a new scale then
I don’t think you’re right there mate. Those KO might suit those regions, but they’re not specifically FOR those regions, the times are merely to get 2 games on during Saturday sandwiched either side of the 3 pm games. The Saturday lunchtime game is rarely one of the headline fixtures, as they still hold them back for the prime slot at 4.30 Sunday.
Wanna bet on that? I’ve go not problem with the game continuing to try to evolve, I’ve also got no problem with the game seeking to further enhance its revenues. However, I’ve got a massive problem with 12 clubs from 3 Nations deciding to secretly plot behind the backs of every other club and association, even their own staff, not to mention their supporters, to create a signed and sealed deal, for the creation of a closed shop monstrosity that’d have severely damaged the domestic game. That’s not good business, neither was the absolute howler of a plan that ignored the most salient point of the game itself. I nearly threw up when I saw Perez talking about how they were only acting in the best interests of the game. Needs lobbing in a wood chipper him.
Makes no sense. Do they magically know which games are going to appeal more to which hemisphere and schedule accordingly? No, the times were specifically designed to be able to show as many as they could, without treading on the toes of the 3pm games. With Covid there was a specific move to make all games available so they had to be staggered further. 12.30 and 5.30 games make no sense in the US anyway. They'll still be cleaning their guns ready for the day ahead on the early one.
Obviously that was why but they've still aired 3pm games. Would you put it passed then to try and use that?
Is call it stage two, they already tried to pull similar **** 12-18mths ago (can't recall thre exact issue though)
I think it’s somehow sacrosanct tbh, part of an agreement that dates back to the start, could be wrong though. None of the TV packages currently sold offer that time slot, so for it to change post COVID, it’d need approval and then offering up to the TV bidding process. Personally I don’t think that’ll happen. Albeit people are going to get a shock to the system when it reverts back to the normal TV rights packages, and half the fixtures disappear from our screens again.
There’d be a massive push back from the lower leagues I reckon, and rightly so tbf. I’d not be for it either tbh, as I enjoy catching most of the games and if they put a top game on at 3 pm Saturday I’d miss plenty of them. It’s worked well without that slot being used for UK broadcast and it should stay that way imo, but I’m a ‘heritage’ fan according to Perez and the Shermans so I don’t count, they wants millennials who they thinks have an attention span that lasts about the same length of time as a Tik Tok video.....
yes they do! Look at the times. 12 noon in england = 7pm in singapore. this is prime time. look a tthe games you see at 12 noon. Look a the breakdown of monday night football that is a dead time internationally. USA is at work, asia is asleep or heading to work. this game is really only for the "european/uk market" the friday night game is also not ideal but they see this as again for the local market. the later time kick off is actually for the US market. they would like it later. its 5:30 as fans could not get home after it. now they have the 8pm kick off. they are delighted. guess what premier games are on at 8pm now anywa noon kick offs saturday noon this week is LFC v newcastle. next week city v palace following week spurs v leeds all top six sides in demand. The el classico should NEVER be plaid at 12 noon. never. for the fans of the two clubs it should be 8pm as they sleep all day and stay up half the night anyway. They have been on at noon for asia. lets not conflate how football has exposed under covid. This horrid dead mans game at 12noon is now the biggest game oftern and the monday night game is the one to put on the legally required tv game for the 14 other **** clubs who think they have a say.
TV schedulers in the dim, distant past. "We have rights to all these games, when can we show them? We have to avoid the Saturday afternoon blackout, so - as close to 3pm as we can get, before and after". It's really as simple as that. If it conveniently coincides with foreign markets then fine, but that isn't the reason. The reason is as I've outlined. You're seeing bogeymen where they don't exist here, I'm afraid.
I think the Yanks' attitude is down to their culture - everything is a product designed to maximise income, and fans are nothing more than a sales opportunity. It's a culture shock to them to realise that fans actually expect to have an input and be heard. Our particular lot have had several demonstrations of this now, but it doesn't seem to be sinking in. Perez is just someone trying to feather his own nest and pulling reasons to justify it out of his arse, trying to make himself look like he has the best interests of the game at heart. Are young people losing interest in the game? I don't know, but if they are it'll be because they can't get their noses away from their bloody phones and the endless supply of crap Hollywood films and "product" churned out by TV companies. This is a cultural phenomenon that won't be solved by pumping more money into football. Especially as they'll just spend it all again anyway, and be looking for even more. Oh, and I agree with the 3pm blackout as well - when things are back to normal.
no mate its really not. as one example as I have actually followed this for years with interest. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40724691 german clubs have discussed this how asia is vital and the time to play though they looked after fans and refused the 12 noon timing) also spain, you can find many artices on this whe nthe first time el clasico was on at noon. https://sg.news.yahoo.com/la-liga-chases-asian-cash-early-clasico-kick-024516709.html this is big business. leagues across europe are following the premier leagues example, not for the local market as their games dont' have the same coverage issues as here. Its for asia.
You seem to have missed the sarcasm in my posts about calling them heroes.. Taking the piss as people have been congratulating them when first pulled out like they have got more morals than others
