So, we're now officially under the stewardship of one of our own, Ryan Mason, til the end of the season. His second game in charge will be a League Cup final, no pressure, Mase! (we're getting tanked regardless of who's in charge ). Here's a thread to discuss all things Mason during his 7 league games and League Cup final. Also a place to discuss who you want as your next manager in the summer. Will throw in a poll.
Has there been any official confirmation that Chris Powell will be taking charge alongside him? I've seen it mentioned by Dan Kilpatrick et al all morning
A lot of media have been reporting that but the club just mentioned Mason alone. I have a feeling Powell will be involved though. With Jose and all his staff going, we're short on first team staff at the moment and Powell stepping up as interim assistant makes a lot of sense.
It'll be intriguing to see how Mason sets us up. He's had a "Tottenham upbringing" and was obviously a pivotal component in Poch's initial rebuild so I wonder if he'll look to try and bring back a more attack minded, high pressing Tottenham. He won't be able to implement too much in terms of style I'd imagine as there isn't sufficient time but personnel tweaks may help change a few things up and I think fans will be looking to see if one or two get back in the reckoning.
Our U18s usually play a 4231 which looks like this (or at least has since Alfie Devine moved up to the U23s) Lo-Tulala; Lusala/Cesay, Paskotsi, Muir, Hackett/Kyezu; Craig/John, Craig; Whittaker/Mathurin, Santiago, Mundle; Scarlett While it's unlikely our first team will line up that way, as the U18s tend to refashion CMs as AMs and AMs as wingers, but that's certainly got attacking FBs and a midfield pivot which recycles the ball quickly so that Santiago, Mathurin or Whittaker can do the damage Alternatively...
Voted nagelsmann but can’t see it as I imagine he’ll have better offers than us if he does leave RBL. Would be interesting to give Parker or potter a go. If Brighton had a decent striker they’d be well clear of the bottom three. Similar with Fulham as well but would say potters experience probably gives him the edge.
Potter for me. He's got more experience than Parker but I wouldn't be totally against him either. He looks like he could have the right stuff and he was well regarded at the club. Nagelsmann may be the better option but we need someone who isn't going to be linked to Bayern every couple of days...and his lack of PL experience worries me. No to Sarri, Allegri and Santo.
Yeah that’s the view of many (myself included) that if Potter had a better striker along with just better and bigger resources that he could do a very decent job. He’s the closest English manager the country has to that new wave of progressive managers that are in the Poch/ Nagelsmann/ Rose etc mould. The “Pep lites” so to speak. I’d like Nagelsmann as I do believe he’s the wonder kid of football management but I’d also be very happy with Potter.
Parker’s an interesting shout but he really does lack the right level experience for now in my opinion. Potter isn’t vastly experienced at elite level either but having done wonders in Sweden in his 7 or so years, worked with Swansea in the Championship and then Brighton in the Prem, he’s got a bit more about him and I think his style is more eye catching.
Apprently Danny Rose has been asked to return to first team training according to Mike McGrath. Mason’s first bit of personnel changing? Rose can’t play in the Prem though for anyone wondering. Imagine he starts the final though, it’ll be as bad as when Jose put Vorm in goal after about 18 months of no action
First of all, I'm very happy for Mason. While I think there's just about no chance he'll be more than an interim manager, it will be interesting to see what he tries to do, and it's great in any case that his coaching career has come along so well. I'll have to look into it more to decide who I want as Spurs manager. My thoughts for the moment: 1. Nagelsmann is the kind of manager I always back, the best of the young ones. 2. Parker probably isn't a big enough name, nor does he have a great record, only a good one. But he seems like a tenacious winner nevertheless and I'd be happy to hear he got the job...at first, anyway. 3. I'm not sold on Potter. He hasn't had a great year, but I'd prefer Hasenhuettl. 4. I would just love hiring Bielsa. 5. I get the feeling Levy will go for another big name. I'm fine with that, as long as the big name is known for attractive football.
I assume that he's just told everyone that they've got a clean slate from today and that happens to include Rose. I'll be very surprised if he plays any part in anything, though I guess he could get a few run-ours in the U23s.
Voted for "Other" but no idea who - I just don't like anyone on this shortlist! As for Mason - I have a feeling this will bode well for Winks and we may see more of him.
Tbh I am just glad he was sacked...been arguing for this for the past 5 or 6 weeks. This weekend he stuck the boot in on Vinicius..."he's not injured, I dropped him". Man delivered every I feared.
It might be that Mason doesn't have the necessary badges, meaning you need someone else as the "manager" whilst he takes charge. Although I think you can get short term permission while you're aquiring the badges so maybe not.
Yeah, that's what I said but there's probably specific requirements related to that, otherwise it's kind of pointless, and given he's only been coaching 3(?) years with one of them being in lockdown he may well be further off in terms of badges. Just throwing it out there, I think Leverkusen had a co-manager situation when Hyypia didn't have the qualifications so it does happen.
