There are quite a few fans wanting Derek McInnes as our new manager........but I'm scratching my head into the reasons why.
I'm sure most had never heard of him up until just over a week ago.
Have any of the fans that want him watched St Johnstone play?
Some say he's good at man management........how do you know that??
I believe he's played in the championship, but I have to say the name never rang a bell at the time.
There have been a few Scottish managers that have done well, but is that a good reason?
If we are honest, The Scottish league at this time, apart from the old firm are very poor, so it wouldn't be difficult for some of the smaller clubs in that league to shine.
Buckle did well for Torquay........means nothing as we've witnessed!!!

Is it because the rest of the managers out there looking for a job, are useless?

And before those of you say, that I'm being disrespectful to Scottish Football, maybe you would like to tell me apart from Celtic & Rangers what other clubs stand out...

I'm not saying I won't back him if he's given the job, but I just don't understand the obsession.

Managers are unemployed for various reasons aren't they onefor? Makes me wonder whether any of the supposed candidates are made of the right stuff for us and indeed do any of them consider BCFC right for themselves.

Our leaders seem to constantly put their feet in their mouth every time they make a statement regarding BCFC. Hearing phrases like "cheap option", "waiting on their decision to join another club" and "second choice" coming out of CS scares the hell out of me and makes me question his negotiating and public relations skills. Did I hear correctly that he took a vaction during this critical time or did my ears deceive me?

Like you onefor I'm not totally in love with McInnes but if I'm totally honest I think our selection pool is very limited just because of who we are and our obvious lack of funds to employ the so-called big names. No matter who is our new manager they have a major task on their hands to instill some sense of discipline and integrity to a bunch of players who have just been putting in their shift, and taking the money, for several years.

    I wish him well.

I just think he's young,a successful 4 years including a promotion in his current job,Prem experience as a player, new ideas, new methods,no favourites,no prima donnas,no sodding old boys baggage with him, enjoys playing football on the ground and a complete contrast to what we've just had..

    Go get him,please.....

onefor,I hope he has as well but I've got to start from somewhere and after reading the St Johnstone forums and O/P and listening to the Owen Coyle interview, for me he just presses the right buttons....If we're still struggling god help us and rest assured, unlike some I will own up...

I asked the question about McInnes on the St Johnstone board - A Rangers fan replied and was very positive - something along the lines of "did what Owen Coyle failed to do at St Johnstone"

I agree that he's a bit of an unknown down south but he has cut the mustard up north and I have to diasagree with the negative comments about Scottish football. The SPL is tremendously imbalanced due to the Glasgow clubs who can match most EPL teams any day of the week. The rest of the SPL are probably somewhere between lower level EPL and upper to middle level Championship teams. It's a very decent standard from the games that I have seen and most of the players are home grown outside Rangers & Celtic.

We are not in any of those catagories and so if McInnes wants to come here and make us better, I say give him a shot. The Scottish managers are hard, blunt and take absolutely no Sh*t from players - something Millen could never aspire to.

There's a lot to be said for a Scottish manager who has had success in the SPL and wants to come to the Championship - hunger & desire. We need it now.

Just to correct a few facts;-

1). as of about 10 mins ago, DM was 5/4 which means a fair wedge to knock him down from 3/1 earlier today...

2). Re career - he played for Rangers between 1995-2000, when Scottish football was still a very good quality. I just picked 1998 at random, lets look at JUST THE TRANSFERS IN in that season, courtesy google

    Player From Fee
18 May 1998 Arthur Numan PSV Eindhoven £4.5m
06 Jul 1998 Gabriel Amato Real Mallorca £4.2m
06 Jul 1998 Giovanni van Bronckhorst Feyenoord £5m
    15 Jul 1998 Andrei Kanchelskis Fiorentina £5.5m [2]
16 Jul 1998 Lionel Charbonnier AJ Auxerre £1.2m
16 Jul 1998 Rod Wallace Leeds United Free
31 Jul 1998 Daniel Prodan Atlético Madrid £2.2m
04 Aug 1998 Colin Hendry Blackburn Rovers £4m
    06 Nov 1998 Stephane Guivarc'h Newcastle United £3.5m [1]
    14 Dec 1998 Neil McCann Hearts £2m
24 Dec 1998 Stefan Klos Borussia Dortmund £0.75m
    01 Jan 1999 Lee Feeney Linfield £0.1m
    01 Apr 1999 Craig Moore Crystal Palace £1m [2]
13 Apr 1999 Claudio Reyna VFL Wolfsburg £2m

So, thats £35m spent on players BOUGHT in that season - at the same time, the likes of Brian Laudrup, Ali McCoist, Andy Goram, Stuart McCall, Gattuso amonst others WERE RELEASED...!

That not a bad team to be playing in so clearly this, along with playing for West Brom in the Prem and being immediately being appointed captain everywhere he went goes to prove that there is plenty of quality and pedigree on the playing side of things.

As for managing, he succeeded in getting his club promoted in his first full season in charge and not only that, they are more than holding their own against the likes of considerably bigger clubs like Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen. Whilst I accept that Scottish football is not strong right now, this is still a pretty decent achievement causing him to be linked to West Brom, Burnley and Watford in the last 12 months or so...

Say what you like but there is something about the no nonsense, very business like approach of Scottish managers that just seems to get things done. As previously mentioned on here, we can only rely on anecdotal references regarding his man management but his players coming out and publicly praising him for it (which of course gets the player to give their very best) is a pretty good place to start

So, this is why I want Mcinnes

I don't want any of the familar old faces that have gone round the merry go around for ages, I think that dulls the edge. I want someone young, hungry and with the ability to grow, hopefully with us on a long term basis..

Mark Robins is a bright young manager with a successful track record and who is working his way up the leagues (like many on here say you should) and his pedigree should also not be forgotten. I want DM 1st choice but MR would not be a bad selection either...

I don't think I will be Jumping around with excitement with O'driscolls appointment, but I will still support him.

I don't think that we will get a unemployed manager due to the time it is taking, a unemployed manager would be able to step in immediately and I feel that we are in negotiations with someone employed behind the scenes. But what do I know only speculating. Shame really as I wanted Jones.

The (relatively) dire standard of football in Scotland isn't the issue here, although I don't think any SPL fan would deny that it's not exactly remarkable standard.

Perth is a wee place, about 50 000 people. St Johnstone are a wee club. I think other fans call us the farmers? Fair enough!

Given our minnow position (easily one of the smallest clubs in the division), we're playing good football, and sitting in a very good position in the league. I was looking at staying in the SPL as a target this year - but that looks like it will easily be managed, we might even come top half. The much praised Owen Coyle didn't even take us into the SPL, Burnley gave him a chance and it worked out OK for them actually getting into the prem...

I've already come on here singing DMc's praises - and he'll go far, but don't write off Scottish managers based on the SPL.

Sorry for late reply, I can't post during the day - not really given it much thought as I don't think it will ever happen. I did like the football that he got his teams playing though...
