I get what you are saying, but in that example Fleetwood would be fine next season as the greedy bastards would be a division below them. I don't think the number of clubs involved should dilute the punishment. Other clubs have faced demotion for rule breaches as serious as this. I think these clubs should too!

Yes but as usual at the expense of the club's at the bottom.

Look at Rangers. They were expelled and they've just won the SPL after a few seasons. Hasn't harmed them at all.

If I was PIF I would come out with a statement saying NUFC will never abandon English football under our stewardship. Also in comparison to these 6 traitorous clubs, our new Saudi owners would easily pass the fit and proper person test.
Might be a good way to convince the PL to let it go through.

    Thoughts?:bandit:

It took them nine years while their biggest rivals won everything. I'm not sure Rangers fans see it as not harming them.

But the powers that be don't care about the fans.

Do you really think it would take man city 9 seasons to get back to being in the top 4?

If PIF had bought us in time for this season we may well have bought our way into this and be just as bad as the others. I don't think any potential Saudi owners would be any less greedy than the 6 who have already betrayed football. Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for.

They should be kicked out until they leave the ESL and then rejoin at the basement. Chelsea v Hornchurch in 3 years time

Unlikely but possible. They wouldn't and couldn't keep their squad and spending patterns. They would fail EFL FPP rules and lose their promotions, as well as possibly going bust before they ever got back if they spent too much. Even rich owners have limits on how much they want to throw away.

I mean, what they're basically done is resign from the CL, right? That's almost immediate. That means their place in their top flights is, what, pointless? But they're acting like them keeping playing in "domestic leagues" is a favour, when it's clear they intend to separate completely.

I think the FA's have to kick them out immediately after the season ends. Just promote lots of teams up the divisions. UEFA are the big losers in this - but they'll stand shoulder to shoulder with FIFA, thus all FA's. Champions League, however you spin it, is dead.

    It's bizarre.

Whatever action is chosen, I hope the rest of football holds its nerve and stands together. This can't be allowed to succeed.

    Enough is enough!

Yes, i agree, BUT they didn't buy us in time though, did they?
So ...... this is a perfect time to take the football moral high-ground and appear like a shining beacon of honesty, tradition and fairness!! <cheers>

    Just a thought.

Quick thought - does this mean, possibly, that the likelihood of a Newcastle takeover has in fact crept closer? I mean, they're all already pushed back because of Leicester, West Ham have done a great job this season, Everton/Leeds/Villa all look like consolidating/strengthening then you factor in a Saudi funded Newcastle - interesting timing, is all I'm saying, to try and protect their positions.

What's quite funny is these yank owners fail to understand that the competitiveness of football is the only reason they are where they are. I cannot see many players wanting to throw away domestic/International football to go to what is effectively a European version of the Scottish top flight. I mean, it's an "NFL" but football isn't set up that way, there aren't "college soccer teams" feeding professional clubs.

    This is SO weird.

Oh well that's the end of football and our hopes as fans forever.

There wasn't much left of it anyway

    Good bye

It's just going to be different. We'll see what happens - on the one hand, I welcome the expulsion of these rancid clubs. Tottenham probably the worst offenders, Arsenal not far behind when both have been beaten repeatedly by "non-ESL" clubs. Will I miss them? No, I mean they're all going to be rebranded - London Gunners, London Spurs, Manchester Devils, Manchester Blues, etc. to fit in with the NFL tradition most likely!

Will it work? Not really. They'll throw good money after bad, but the point of the PL audience is rival clubs tune in to see what happens, neutrals watch to see small teams beat bigger ones, etc. If your audience is plastic fans and neutrals, where's the money in that? You're talking about a minority of non-loyal people who won't buy merch, pay for viewing rights, etc.

The CL is also going to suffer - but I welcome that too. They lost integrity YEARS ago, so they brought this on themselves. PL too, colluding with clubs who were always going to stab them in the back.

Let them go. And if/when they want to come back, they start where everyone starts - 9 leagues below the top flight. Transfers will come with a premium - they've allegedly got the money, so they have to pay the big bucks and when you **** off to the ESL, you're no longer eligible for International selection. Oh, and your loan system is now defunct - you can't just loan your players into the PL/EFL, you'll have to set up your own U23 and b-team leagues.

I think they've all signed their own death sentence. I hope the rest of football stands firm and helps them into the graveyard. I'll say this - the second these six clubs are playing in a ESL and the Premier League is the day I stop completely.

I just posted this on the prem board thread,,,

They will get to play 18 regular league games and then 7 knock out stages games. Not everyone will get to play each other and only the top clubs will get close to the maximum of 25 games, but at the end of it all they will have a big showpiece final. They will keep the billions in TV money and divide it between themselves to the benefit of the owners. They will keep their local names but they are really just franchises that are far detached from the fans. Ticket prices will rise and only the top successful teams will attract much interest in the long run. They'll probably try and sell it as the best teams in the world and some sort of world championship even though it is a closed shop.

Anyway, enough about the NFL. Anyone know where they came up with the idea for the super league format and what their long term aims are?

Kicking them out of the Premier League is all well and good but where they then reappear would depend on what the EFL want do. They could just as easily say - we want those big 6 teams in the Championship.
I would say a takeover is less likely at the moment. Even though PL may be keen to pass a fit and proper owners test, valuing the club would be difficult until the position is clear. The main controlling factor in the club value is the amount of revenue available from the broadcasting deals and these can't be gauged until what is happening to the "big 6" is decided. Sky/BT would certainly expect a reduction in the cost to them for PL rights without those teams, as would every other global broadcasting company that has a deal with them. Unless Mike is willing to significantly reduce the sale cost and PIF are willing to a big financial risk I would suspect any takeover is now in limbo.
