Its that time of the week again when we can all turn our minds towards Saturday's game. I will be heading up on the Valley Express with my brother, and we are very much looking forward to what should be a good game. Most people on here seem to agree that Stevenage will prove another tought test, but personally I think we will maintain our unbeaten run and register another 3 crucial points. It will be interesting to see the team sheet, with the inclusions of Green / Kermorgant not really working out last week, although I think thats more a case of lack of match fitness/awareness/tatics than poor individual performances. Personally I would bring back Hayes to link the midfeild/BWP and keep Green. With Hayes, half of what he tries doesn't work, but the half that does either sets BWP free or maintains attacking momentum. Kermo is a great sub option as he embodies "plan B", with a strong ariel presence, but starting enourages long-balls when our passing game isnt flowing, when I believe, as Powell does, patience with the system is the better option. As for Waggy, I strongly believe that he will do more off the bench in the last half-hour than if he starts. I believe his turn of pace vs. fatigued opponents during the period makes him twice the player he would be if he started against a fresh left-back. As for the rest of the team we should see an unchanged side, but hopefully Powell has been working with Hollands and Stephens after a couple of sub-par perfomances With the Sheffield derby on Sunday and both Preston (who I fear the most) and Hudders away from home, this has the potential to be a great weekend in terms of a positive result for us and dropped points for our rivals. As far as I can tell, although MK Dons and Sheff Wed will be up there at the end of the season, It will be Hudders, Sheff. Utd, and Preston that will fight it out with us for the top 2 spaces. I'm going to stick my neck out and say 2-1 to us, with Green getting his first goal for the club. Very happy to see so many fans heading down, and hopefully we can turn this into a home game (without the away team comeback). COYR Japanaddick
i think kermo and green will start. kermo, because away from home you need someone to hold the ball up as much as possible and green, because he was our big money signing. either way, it couldnt get much worse than last saturdays game so there's also that. think a 0-0 or a 1-1. cant see many goals in it, just lots of yellow cards if going on other reviews of stevenage are anything to go by.
Japan Addick - i agree with your team assessment, especially the missing of Hayes last week, as i mentioned elsewhere, Stevenage are a snidey physical team and i can see a red card or 2 and a hard fought 1-1 scoreline, However my heart says 0-4 to the Addicks with a BWP hat trick and a Stephens rocket!!!!
If I am aloud to put in my 2 penneth. We are very much learning our trade in the League as with only one season in league 2 we havn't had much chance. You will notice a bit of a direct game, somewhat frought with non-league tactics at times, which will frustrate. Nearly all our squad came from the Conference with Stevenage and therefore what was bread and butter in the Conference doesn't wash in the league. Conversely you can see why Luton cant get out of the Conference as they are pretty and the division is ugly. The Key objective this season is survival and this will surpass any of our previous acheivments including 3 trips to Wembley in 4 years and the Old Trafford play off final last year. To bingo the post match assesment of Stevenage from the oppositions eyes Cheats, Timewasters, Big Strong and Physical, Horrible brand of football, Ugly, Team of 6footers, horrible little non-league club, hope you back to where you come from etc. Hopefully we will surprise and play some attractive football. We are 4 straight defeats after humbling Sheffield Wednesday, but all very close (Should have beaten Uddersfield) so are well due a win.
I have had my mind towards it since 5.00pm last Saturday. Still, I'm retired so don't have much else to think about ...
Thanks for your post Danty. Your club can be proud of what it has achieved. You are no smaller a club than Wimbledon and they went through to the top level and stayed there several years and won the FA Cup. Mind you, times have changed somewhat. It is up to the referees to ensure teams play to the laws. If your team favours an over-physical approach as other suggest, they could play out the final third of the season decimated by injuries, red cards and accumulated yellows. I am sure they don't want that.
yeah fair play to you stevenage boys. i wont criticise you lot for trying to play to your strengths on limited resources. if u get away with it, then faird dos. will be easier to maintain this view when we exit with 3 points and we are very gravious in victory COYR
I'm with Japan - Addickd to win and I'm taking 6/4 we do it. If we can win @ Sheff U we can win @ Stevenage
i'm assuming their ground isnt much like bramall lane, can see it being more like dagenhams from last year and it being a pretty horrible place to try and play pass it on the ground. a draw and no injuries will be a v good result
This will be a toughie for us,although taking 1.500 charlton fans with inflatables what i here-be very tough to get anything from this, stevenage play dirty and off ball tactics try and get opp wound up,westley is already a self made millionaire what im lead tro believe as he has business outside of football.Stevenage have a good home record this what worries me,we have to play to our strengths and hussle every ball, we have got to score very early and defend like hell for the rest of the game.Bostwick is a good player who will cause problems and laird and roberts at the back also.Their main playmaker winn has gone on loan to cambridge so wont see him running at us.im going for a 2-2 changed my mind on earlier prediction,i reckon we go behind with us pulling back to late goals
Guys, apparently the Northern line is closed today so it's best to look for alternative routes to Kings. Looks like I'm spending over an hour on the 63 bus!
This thread makes more sense than the other one for this post Hamer Morrison Taylor Cort Wiggins Green Hollands Stephens Jackson BWP Kermorgant Subs: Sullivan, Evina, Solly, Hayes, Wagstaff Very surprised that Solly has been dropped.
Charlton 01 Hamer 05 Morrison 06 Taylor 16 Wiggins 28 Cort 04 Jackson 07 Green 08 Stephens 22 Hollands 10 Wright-Phillips 36 Kermorgant Substitutes 13 Sullivan, 03 Evina, 20 Solly, 11 Wagstaff, 09 Hayes Interesting about Solly being rested? Unless i've missed something about him picking up a knock? Or just dropped?
