We might do better if players in a scoring position tried placing the ball instead of blasting it against an opponent.
Seem to be saying it a lot but 3 at the back should shore us up then Hume and Gooch at WB. That'd give us something extra in attack that we don't have with 4 at the back and McFadzean and Power at fullback. I'd also look at bringing in Younger and/or Almond to replace O'Nien, if no senior defenders available, and allow him to play in CM or further up.
You're not wrong mate. We are crying out for a forward who can take the ball to feet and knows where the net is. Players at the minute seem to think its enough to pump in an aimless cross or just fire in a shot with little real intent or craft.
Now hoping Hull get deducted 20 points for some as of yet unknown financial irregularities and Peterboro lose all of their remaining games
The only stat that matters chief,is the amount of chances that go in the onion bag.....it looks like Blackpool got one and Sunderland got .....errr none
Agree. Apart from the Wigan game its hard to see what is going wrong, or at least know how to fix it. Some of it Simple stuff like accurate passing and not giving the ball away. We have a few 3rd division level players who are not consistent at that. If they were they would be playing for Championship teams . Then there's the recent switching off for set pieces and couple of Wyke's chances being saved rather than going in. Other differences in the 'fine margins' are that Jones is way less effective when referees let him get fouled all the time and loses interest, and that Stewart doesn't yet play well with Wyke when he comes on. If we didn't have the pressure to play those two players when its not working we might do better. Maybe go back to Gooch with Jones and option off the bench. But I'm not sure LJ would ever do this when Jones is one of the best players in the league. And then Gooch has is own consistency issues too. It's a bit of a nightmare and LJ will look like a hero when it works, and not when it doesn't.
really hard to argue with anything posted (even if you do not always agree with certain posters). i seem to remember saying earlier in the season that as long as wyke is running towards the goal and someone puts the ball right in front of him, he will score...it was obviously a little tongue in cheek but we really do appear to have resorted to that again...the commentators today were praising the quality of the crosses from both sides, i thought they were rubbish, either that or our forwards were no good at finding space and getting on the end of them and i actually think it was a mix of both. as stated earlier we also have a habit of shooting and hitting a defender or blasting it to row z... i tend to watch more football now than i ever did and i honestly cannot think of a single team that does this as consistently as this squad, sometimes they have a clear strike yet decide to take a touch or turn into a worse position, scowen actually got one on target the day and i am still wondering how mcgeadys effort stayed out but take them out and i cannot think of a clear cut chance. as of this moment i am accepting another season in division three with the hope that the new regime will be able to assemble a squad that will not only storm this league but hold their own in the championship as we grow...surely we cannot end up stuck here forever.
I’d be tempted to give Hawkes a shot alongside Wyke, we couldn’t do much worse up front at the minute and he seems to know where the net is.
Agree, but my great hope is that in the playoffs we will get three similar games to the recent ones but see our chances go in. This could still happen. Charlton were better than us last go round, but I think its more even this time. Same for the other playoff teams. It's not going to be fun though!
