The Queen better not die in the week before Glorious Goodwood. (I can live with Royal Ascot getting interrupted, I always struggle for winners there).

try getting a bet on that scenario ! it’s impossible, i tried once when the queen mother was choking on fish bones , william hill said they didn’t take such bets ! despite saying they lay odds on any event !!

    11:55 A Book Of Intrigue

This horse is an enigma, it has lots of talent (as seen in its bumper days) and they have now moved it to a trainer! Albeit not a very good one. Owners had a fall out with O'Shea after another "Intrigue" was punted without them knowing!!

If they've got him straight (and it is a big IF) then he is so well handicapped it is hard to ignore him. I expect we will see further money if it is a going day, so watch in the betfair exchange market for the next few hours!

Most importantly today is my thoughts are with Lorna Brooke who has been put into an induced coma after further complications from her fall.

Good luck today to all having a wager. Grendel could well be the man who has struck some hot form!

Literally that is supposed to translate as "Banging the palms of the hands" which I hope means a round of applause, rather than any other activity that involves the palm of the hand and "Banging" <cool>

Looks a good race this one. I've gone for Lustown Baba at 6s. Although clearly better over 6f has some early form at 7f and is unbeaten in two starts at the course. Speak In Colours could be overpriced at 10/1 so had a small ew on that aswell. Reverse fc for good measure.

    Literal translations can be misleading.
It means a round of applause

Just one poke for me today in the form of Lancaster House in 2.35 4/1. Won this race last year and even though he performed poorly towards the end of last season that was in much tougher waters than today.

I thought Know It All had plenty to do coming into the closing stages but she did make some headway without managing better than third. Not a bad run but I thought she might have gone closer.

Thundering Nights hit the front but was worn down by the 1/2 Fav Broome, who won by half a length in less than thrilling fashion. I may well oppose him again in the right circumstances. Thundering Nights was racing off level weights against a horse with a 10 lbs higher official rating and she was well clear of the rest, so this was a decent effort for sure. More than happy with my each-way at 11/1 on her and with Glouthane winning earlier it was not a bad day at all.

Bolger's filly Morning Matron had concerned me because she won on really soft ground last time and it was much faster underfoot today. I don;t know how many of Jim Bolger's youngsters I have seen in recent years who have looked impressive first time but failed to go on from it and Morning Matron was in trouble after showing good early speed and she was 3rd with well backed newcomer Cheerupsleepyjean looking quite smart in winning by more than two lengths after coming through strongly in the closing stages. Cadamosto would have given the race some more depth and a bit more solid form but was pulled out because he was off his feed. Hard to say where they will go with Cheerupsleepyjean but she is entered in a couple of valuable yearling races and it looked today that those races over 6F and 6 and a half should suit because she wasn't stopping today.

That was just for the public. The real funeral took place 3 days before with just The Queen, Harry and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
