Gerrard has done both Scholes and Keane's job. But not as well as either of them. Scholes was a better creator, passer and scorer from open play (excluding penalties). Keane was better at positioning, tackling, ball winning and leading. They complemented each other perfectly, which is why they were the best midfield partnership in the PL and why we were so dominant with them in the side.

I think Gerrard suffered quite a bit from not having a well defined role in the Liverpool team. The team's inadequacies over the years forced him to be deployed in unfamiliar roles so he never really got the understanding Keane and Scholes developed, and thus never hit the same heights. It's a shame really, maybe if Liverpool had put him in a stable central midfield role he would have mastered the position, and been a great CM rather than just a great all round player. That's probably one of the reasons he struggled so much in a 442 with England - the necessary positional discipline continually eluded him.

"unfamiliar roles" - which he's taken to within a game or two and done better than most.

Unbelievable player!!! I think you're winning my argument for me. :)

Spev, Henderson coming off the bench if pretty ****ing far from scary.

Nor is Bellamy, the very same Bellamy who failed to terrorise championship sides last year, but whatever you want to believe, you go ahead.

As for the Gerrard/Keane debate, Liverpool fans will always say Gerrard is better, the rest of the football world knows Keane was better.

Not really. Berbatov did great at CB against Leeds...not sure that's going to win any arguments. And John O'Shea was an awesome goalkeeper when called upon ;)

Anyway, as has been said, this debate will go nowhere fast. For me, Gerrard was a better all round player, but Keane was a better CM and Scholes was a better AM and playmaker. I'm sure you have your own opinion on the subject <ok>

These arguments are never won or lost as each set of fans understandably will back their own player. I would go for Gerrard over Scholes but Keane over Gerrard (Just) in their positions. The mancs will never agree with my Gerrard over Scholes opinion. It's a dead argument before it begins.

Gerrard CM. Maybe Torres at CF if he's really really lucky.

Reina may have a chance at GK - can't think of anyone after Schmeichel, Cech, VDS and Seaman. And if you're counting CB as two separate positions (i.e. left CB and right CB) then Hypia might be in with a shout. Maybe also Riise at LB?

I also loved scholes as a player (tackling aside) he really ran games at times but I do think people overhype his attacking role eg surely attacking midfielders should average more than three assists per season?

Robbie Fowler for sure would be in the top 5.

Have I ever seen more of a natural goal scorer in the EPL? No.

Thanks Muff Cock. I think it's sweet that I remind you of anything.

Can't say you do the same for me, unfortunately. Just some repetitive faceless entity really. If you had some personality to share...maybe?

I think your name's brilliant tho. Keep up the good work pal.

Maybe not, but Henry, Shearer, RVN, Cantona, Drogba, Zola, Rooney and Bergkamp were all better strikers imo, and many of them have better goalscoring records. I guess this one could again come down to whether we are treating striker as two separate positions, i.e. do we have the top five second strikers and the top five out and out strikers?

To choose the best striker I guess is very hard because of the variation and quality of player we've seen in the EPL.

But for the natural goal scoring ability I would go for Fowler, but for flare I would say Henry or Cantona... It's a tough one because what is a striker these days?

All I know is if someone can score a hat-trick in 4 minutes against a good Arsenal defence then they're something pretty special

I would. I'd say what you say above is a fair assessment.
