Context was never your strong point RP...........................
My actual words, without picking out bits to suit the argument!!!! :emoticon-0127-lipss that's not like you RP <laugh>
"Pearson will layout what he feels is required from the club to have the control of team affairs, whatever that might be...he might demand a complete change to the ethos or setup and culture.....SL would have to have total trust in his ability to agree to such demands.
I can't believe with the experience of NP that it will be just a tweek, I Imagine it will be a complete overhaul....Will SL be happy to take that route would be the question.."

Nothing about squad in there :emoticon-0103-cool:........................more jabs required.. :emoticon-0172-mooni

Trying to blame one, or several, people for our seemingly endless mediocrity doesn't address an issue which was allowed to fester for more seasons than I can remember. At the start of every new campaign our hopes were re-kindled, despite the knowledge that if any team will mess it up it would be us, and on my rare visits to watch a game I always watched the same rubbish that was on show at my last outing. Apathy and neglect is our real problem and the hiring of our managers reflected that scenario and so we ended up with the no-hope inexperienced candidates hired from the bargain basement and that policy got us absolutely nowhere.

I am starting to have serious doubts as to whether the policies of previous years have really left the building which begs me to ask if the short term hiring of Nigel Pearson is a vain attempt to calm the dissenters. When I look at the teams each season that have a realistic shot at promotion I ask myself why is it never Bristol City and how come other off the radar outfits seem to get there before us? The time for my bucket list items to be crossed off is getting shorter with each passing year and on the footballing front my dream is to watch City trot out before 30,000+ at Ashton Gate versus Liverpool and Man Utd but unless they both get relegated it doesn't look like it will happen. How nice it would be to be able to watch City every weekend on T.V. and I don't mean League One coverage on DAZN.

But this is Bristol City and apart from the brief spell back in the late 70s...it's never been any different.
This is our longest stint in the 2nd tier since those days (thanks LJ!!) :emoticon-0105-wink:.......the key now is to move on and progress from here... I think at SL's time in life.....this has to be one of his most important decisions........time is running out..

The one common denominator in our lack of progression as a football club is our owner Steve Landsdown. We saw it when he didn't buy the striker we needed to get promoted in 08, and he has sought out young inexperienced managers, which usually equals cheaper since we returned to the Championship. LJ, whatever you view on him worked, to a point. DH didn't work at all, but this mindset is clearly in SL, and I'm not sure it will change.

Yes SL has invested and made a great stadium for the fans, but remember that stadium is not solely used by BCFC, and the revenue from that was the reason SL invested. Has SL also come to realise that, while it was his dream to have City in the Premier League and European football, the high cost of trying to achieve that (with no guarantee it would happen), means he has looked at other options on making a Bristol team successful without the exorbitant cost, i.e. Bristol Rugby? For a significantly lower outlay, he has funded the Bears to genuine title contenders in less than 5 years!

I have said many times that I seriously doubt that SL now wants to pay out what it would take to achieve and maintain Premiership status for City, and is happy for us just to be 'in the promotion mix' each season, with a great stadium, while his dream for success in Bristol sport is delivered by Bristol Bears at a fraction of the cost.

Spot on, absolutely 100% correct, and I have been saying exactly the same for years. If he used the same tactics and seriously flawed logic in his business dealings he would have been made bankrupt decades ago.

Because what Lansdown says (and in fairness may aspire to) and what Lansdown actually then does are usually two very different things when it comes to the FC.

A return to meagre crowds of just 12,000 on a Saturday afternoon in a lovely (but 3/4 empty stadium) and a return to playing the likes of Gillingham in L1 is now well within his grasp unless he finally makes some good decisions instead of saying one thing and then doing the total opposite.

He's had opportunities to put Bristol, the largest city in the southwest by far, with a huge potential catchment area for support firmly on the footballing map and has failed.

    This.
It really does make me wonder what it is with us that makes success (the Premiership or a major trophy) so bl00dy elusive.
Is Ashton Gate built on a neolithic burial site perhaps?

SL states in a quote printed todays Bristol Post ~ "Oh yes, I take full responsibility [for the dip in form]. Although I’m not on the board I am the owner, I do fund it. I do authorise it. Success can be down to me and failure can be down to me," said Lansdown in February.

I find it hard to condemn Sl, without him and his £m's we would be up the creek without a paddle, he has stuck by our club, kept us afloat and brought us into the 21st Century, god knows where would be without him, maybe just one step up from the 'Tinpots' in Horfield.

Bristol Sport has developed and is staying, the jewel in the crown is Bristol City FC, I'm sorry but we have failed management wise to nuture our club, we have tried to do it on the cheap, small time people for big time costs, SL failed on his vision with low profile appointments, then entrusted the resposibility of running the football club business to one individual, as also quoted in todays Bristol Post ~ ' Now almost everything runs through the CEO, from recruitment to planning, to club media to communication blackouts, and more. Despite being at the centre of everything, accountability for the happenings on the pitch is muddied however.' Even our immortal re-hab dept is totally under his control, it's all very small time, low vision and strict control.

Commercial side successful, community side successful, stadia side successful, every other area of Bristol Sport, rugby, basketball, womans football seem to be moving forward.

It's time for SL to break out, the Mark Ashton & Jon Lansdown leadership is feeble, replace MA, keep JL as chairman with a new CEO with less power, appoint a director of sport, responsible to the CEO, offer a long term contract to Nigel Pearson as manager, replace the coaches and clear out the debris of our re-hab.

We need strong men, with a new wider vision to move our club forward, not be led by a couple of yes men trying to please everybody and failing lamentably.

Bristol City confirm CEO Mark Ashton will step down as Ipswich Town wait in the wings
The Robins chief departs BS3 after five years and is expected to join the Tractor Boys in the near future.

Great news, made my day, no doubt about it, forget all the warm words, he has been lining his own pockets and future at our expense, boot him out now, surplus to requirements, I honestly have no sympathy for him and he will not be missed.

    Give Nige that contract.

Now that Ashton is stepping down......what if Nige doesn't get offered the managers job........................then what?? Would surely have been better to appoint a manager and then boot Ashton......................unless that is on the table but we don't know it yet!!! :emoticon-0125-mmm:

Generally good news with MA disappearing.
But I simply don't see what Jon Lansdown brings to the party. He's supposedly chairman of our FC but seems to spend most of his time pursuing his own interests abroad. He's also best mates with LJ apparently, so maybe he'll bugger off to Sunderland <laugh>
