If only today was 10 March and we already knew the winners of the Festival. Like in Back to the Future.

    Aintree

    17,15 Grand National Handicap Chase

As I already mentioned in the GN thread, my rule is to bet on four horses in this race. This year, exceptionally, and due to the return of the money from the 2020 bets, I have added two more. If I'm still alive next year I'll go back to the usual custom.

    For tomorrow I have:

    Kimberlite Candy 33/1
    Burrows Saint 20/1
    Discorama 33/1
    Potters Corner 25/1
    Milan Native 50/1
    Takingrisks 66/1

    All e/w four places.

Hopefully horses and riders will all return safe and sound. Good luck all.

My favourite day of the year...I m getting excited! :emoticon-0169-dance. Love the Grand National even though you can bunny hop the fences these days...

Don't forget Bet365 refund half your stake on every each way bet placed in the national (literally within seconds). So £10 each way will only cost you a tenner..£20 each way only £20 and so on so forth etc..

If that doesn't get your juices flowing lord knows what will...:emoticon-0167-beer:

Is Cloth Cap the correct price for the extended Aintree hurdle race, or is there value to be had elsewhere folks?

I’m sure there’s value to be had elsewhere, but Cloth Cap is currently 8 on the Bf e/w market, so that’ll do for me.

Morning everyone...what stories could be created today I wonder? Could Tabitha Worsley win the big race? Will Johnjo O'Neil junior scupper his father's chances?

    Exciting day ahead..bets:

Aintree 3.35pm Diol Ker 11/1 each way 4 places. He s got some decent form in his back catalogue, even beating Monkfish. I think he ll run well.

In the big one I m backing:

Any Second Now 11/1 each way 5 places
Bristol De Mai 22/1 each way 6 places
Jett 66/1 each way 8 places.

    Good luck all! :emoticon-0167-beer:

11/2 now and still wrong. Too many hard luck stories to be taking that sort of price. Following The Storyteller’s defection my pin has alighted on Lord Du Mesnil @ 40s and (don’t laugh) Hendo’s Ok Corral @ 80s. The former is a staying mudlark but the GN ground is always softer than advertised so no worries on that front. The latter was well fancied in 2020 and is just too big a price to be ignored. Good luck everyone.

So the big day and race is upon us but in reality it's just the best time of the year for all things sporting. Love it as ole Kevin Keegan once said...!!

    Aintree
    1:45 - Hometown Boy, 10/1
    2:25 - My Drogo, 7/4
    3:00 - Gumball, wo, 2/1
    3:25 - Diol Ker, 12/1
    4:15 - Snow Leopardess 10/1
    6:20 - Charlies Glance, 12/1

    Grand National...
Bristol De Mai, 50/1, ap bet back in October
    Discorama, 25/1
    Acapella Bougeois, 33/1
    Anibale Fly, 28/1

It really is the race that we all watch, and so we really want some feel good story lines to come from it. We need it don't we...??

Good luck to all who are playing today...<ok> <cheers>

    Scoop 6/Ew Lucky 63/Acca

    1:45 - J'A'i Froid 17/2 (5 Places). Also have this one at 14/1 in a win single.
    2:25 - Ballyadam 11/4
    3:35 - Thyme Hill 5/2
    4:15 - Johnbb 9/1 (4 Places)
    5:15 - Farclas 25/1 (5 Places)
    6:20 - Balco Coastal 9/4

Have also backed Parramount 25/1 & Luttrell Lad 28/1 in ew singles in the bumper. Combi fc/tc with Balco.

Over at Dundalk there's a few shorties i like:

    1:40 - Abstract 5/2
    3:25 - Pineapple Express 11/8
    3:55 - Maricruz 5/1
    4:30 - Kinch 5/2

    Good luck all

All about My Drogo today - hoping that there is actually a half decent horse outside Ireland!
Been so impressed with him this season but today will be a big test facing the classy Ballyadam.

As for the Grand National, if he gets a clear round then Cloth Cap will be hard to beat - he won the computer simulation on ITV last night I see.
i can't have any horse at 5/1 in the National though. Would love to see Rachael Blackmore win but at this stage I am leaning towards Any Second Now who hopefully Ted Walsh will have spot on for today.

The classiest horse in the race might well be Farclas though and if he stays could be a very good each way bet.
I also always like Becher chase form and Kimberlite Candy must have a big chance. Vieux Lion Rouge rolled back the years to win back in December though and if he stays then maybe this could finally be his year. I always have a bet on him in this anyway so can't desert him today!

    145 Ashtown Lad ew

    225 My Drogo

    300 Shiskin ew - surely he'll be in the first 2? :D

335 Lisnagar Oscar ew at 11-1 - seemingly a 2 horse race, but Rachel Blackmore should have a say in this

415 Cloudy Glen - Hemmings could be having a very good day

    *************************************************
    515 The Grand National

There are many ew options as per usual in this hugely popular annual handicap, and (I would imagine) prices will be influenced by the thousands of once-a-year punters. Long time favourite Cloth Cap,is a worthy one, being a stone well in, and it is hard to look past this. I have never liked backing the fav in this race as so few have ever obliged, although of course Tiger Roll did so in 2019. I'm equally loath to back the top weights, although Bristol De Mai could have a squeak if only he could perform anywhere else but Haydock. One of my preferred "stats" is choosing a horse that has been over the National fences before, although that particular stat has been diluted in more recent years by the reductions and modifications to the once fearsome obstacles, and ignoring this I fancied Potters Corner for the 2020 renewal. It didn't happen of course but I threw a few quid at him in the Virtual version, so all was not lost! Most of what we determine as "form" horses are of course in the first 5 or so in the market, and don't really represent what we like to call value (I have stronger views on this - another time maybe!) Kimerlite Candy is one of 7 runners for JP, and 3rd in the betting behind Any Second Now and Minella Times, yet has a cracking profile for this, having been second twice in the Bechers, and he has competed at the distance in the Eidur. He was 24 lengths behind Vieux Lion Rouge in the Bechers, and the manner of VLR's victory looked emphatic but at 12 I wonder if he will have enough speed left at the business end. Age of course is another consideration, my usual preference is for horses aged 8-10, but due (I think) to last years cancellation, there seem to be many more older beasts than is usually the case. This is what throws the place market wide open.

Cloth Cap for the win, Kimberlite Candy and Potters Corner for places

    Good luck all <ok>

EDIT: My own particular stats - 8 winners and numerous placed. However, spread over 50 odd years, not that impressive!

    Good luck today everyone.

    Mine to avoid:

1:45 - Barnaviddaun and also Uknowwhatimeanharry at a big price with the Fry team in better shape.
2.25 - Ballyadam - My Drogo could be anything but Ballyadam has very solid form.
    3.00 - No bet
3.35 - Indefatigable - Ran a cracker after wind surgery and could come on again for 2nd run. 3m should be ideal. Decor Irlandais - Irish hurdle form this season isn't to be sniffed at and he travels well and likes good ground.
4.15 - Johnbb and Cloudy Glen. Cloudy Glen made a good few mistakes at Cheltenham and still came 2nd to Mount Ida. Could be more to come
Grand National - 3 at decent prices for me - Bristol De Mai - Season has pointed towards here solely for the first time and even so, still managed 2 cracking performances. Will need to be on his A+ game with top weight though. Alpha Des Obeaux - Similar profile to Rule the World, classy horse but plagued by mishaps. Jockey has been on fire recently and could outrun his massive odds. Acapella Bourgeois - gave weight and a beating to 4 others in the race in the Bobbyjo yet double the price of Burrows Saint.
    6.20 - Paramount
