He had his a golden opportunity to get us into the Premiership in 2008 and to a lesser degree in 2018. It's no good him whining about the economic climate now it just sounds like excuses.
If he doesn't want to own the club, then I'd suggest he sells up and let someone else have a go who has real ambition not just empty words.

As I have said including the loaners and end of season short contract players, we have 14 players out of contract, many of whom are big earners, youngsters coming through and we are not under transfer embargo until July unlike 10 or so of our rivals, there are record numbers of players out of contract out there, surely shift on most of those 14 (maybe keep 2) and bring in some of the players that are out of contract from other clubs.

If Pearson is appointed, sounds to me he will be on a tight budget and not the open cheque book that he was possibly expecting......
With that in mind.......for him, other clubs may seem more attractive....also depends how good of a coach he is working on a budget, getting the best from the players we have and what we have in the academy..
I'm not sure if next season will be about progress towards the Premiership or avoiding relegation to league 1.. ............................................limbo once again!!!

I suspect he would have to be like the pinball wizard deaf, dumb and blind to not realise that we are in difficult financial times in the sport.

I also suspect it depends exactly what SL and Ashton promised him for the long term, because I am 100% sure that would have been on the table ready for the long term.

I will make a prediction if he keeps a majority of the 14 that are out of contract we are ****ed next season.

    Agree with the last sentence.

It's ironic that after all these years we finally appoint a Manager with the CV content that we need, who's been there, seen it and done it at this level, only to find there is no or possibly little money for him to spend. If this turns out to be the case, then no one will blame Nige if he decides that even he can't make a silk purse out of a cows arse with the limitations he might face and he walks away !

To be honest, the only Championship clubs with any money next season will be either:

    - The clubs newly relegated from the Prem with their parachute money - but they will have huge wage bills to contend with
    - Clubs with rich owners who are willing to take a gamble on promotion and hoping to escape FFP by spending to achieve it

All the rest of us are in the same boat.

We don't have a transfer embargo for the first month of the window, unlike 10 of our rivals, but it looks as though we are going to miss that particular boat as usual.

It’s not looking good is it, I think I’ll hang on before buying a season ticket, I don’t think I’ll be alone.

Reading between the lines on all the print coming out about the current financial status of clubs in the Championship makes me wonder if our fetish about hiring the cheapest options wherever possible has been the main issue causing our constant re-arranging of the lifeboats? Having yes men lower down the totem pole is a good idea if you want to control spending and to muffle any managerial cries for help when needed but eventually it will come back to bite you. Steve Lansdown now has to look himself in the mirror to find out what it is that he really wants before Bristol City has any chance of moving forward in the way that he claims is part of his dream for the club. My mind is starting to think that if we are determined to do things the way Lansdown has mentioned in his culture of the club blurb then I don't think Pearson will stay any longer than the end of this season.

Right from the off I have thought Nigel Pearson was the biggest breath of fresh air mainly because he has been there and done that, but having said that I can't see him enduring the dross we have on board in the player department and perhaps this magical culture we apparently have will just scare the socks off him and he will head for the hills of better and more fruitful ground.

We can waste no more time on making the decisions necessary to rebuild an absolutely useless squad and if we do let Pearson off the hook I fear for the consequences. Is the tea lady still working?

Don't know about the other 9 clubs Jiffie, but it won't be a problem for us - that's not to say we'll have any money to spend anyway because I expect most Championship club's figures will be frightening.

Our year end is always the end of May and you have 9 months to submit your audited accounts to Companies House - that's end of February 2021 for year ending May 2020. A three month extension was granted to all companies for submission this year because of the pandemic.

However, the EFL stll insisted on the 2020 accounts being submitted by the original date - in our case end February. As ours (and presumably others) had not been signed off by then, they imposed an automatic transfer embargo in a period when you can't buy anyone anyway because it's outside the windows - ludicrous.

The club issued a statement immediately the media made this public knowledge..........

Yes most of the clubs have made a similar statement, I read an article, maybe the athletic (can't recall which one) the speculation is that it is probably more serious for some of the 10 clubs than just late submission of accounts.
