My recent tour of the SW of France made me realise that driving for long distances causes me much pain:( Anything over 2 hours and I suffer, bearing in mind I used to drive 8 hours to Scotland at the drop of a hat;) and not feel a thing!

sounds like you need an automatic gearbox in your car, or one of those paddle switch gear change systems

With me it's not the gears that are the problem, it's sitting in the same, usually cramped, position for too long that causes problems.

Like Al, I used to think nothing of driving for hours on end - it only seems like yesterday that I used to drive around the Queensland Outback - 1000km stretches at a time. Those days are long gone now :(

I hate admitting that I cannot do something that I used to enjoy so much! It is like when we were in France and we found a lovely beach near Bordeaux it had an open air gym and the sand was gorgeous and i thought it would be great to come down here and go for a run along the beach then use the gym, but alas my knees will not allow it, I felt my knees just walking through the blessed sand let alone running on it :(

Iv'e got DSG in my car Norway and it does take the strain off of your clutch leg a lot, but it's sitting in the car for hours that screws your back up. I stop very couple of hours and take a stroll around on a long journey....

Well, i've eaten my grub for the day..and i have to say, i'm not as hungry as i was this time yesterday, so something is improving. I can see that i'm going to get pretty bored fairly quickly though, just through lack of sweet things...i'm going to crave sugar very soon! lol

Evening H. Its good to see your body is starting to play ball. I know what you are talking about with the feeling bored. I would usually eat to stop the boredom or to cheer myself up, but i have to stop this now.

I had a bowl of pasta before training to get my energy up for training, but now i am hungry again. I just dont know what to eat.

Evening all, just finished a 1hr 20 min session in the gym. Probably do another on a couple of days and then finish off with the regular 6 mile run on Sunday. Now I've got back into it, I'm really to enjoy the excerise again.

H, I knew there must be a positive about not being able to drive but I'd never thought it would be provided by a driving instructor.

Think I will be aiming to lose some again. Keep trying to get fit then something stops me... this year has been torn calf playing football, then damaged shoulder at the gym then twisted an ankle playing football again - getting fit isn't good for you! Have now bought a road bike to cycle to work (8 miles each way) so a little less 'impact'

Am about a size 36/38 (probably nearer 38 after the hols) so would love to get back down to a 34. Just need to lose the belly and love-handles and I'll be happy!
