Trent suffer from lack of pacey cover next to him. Phillips for all his last ditch headers is the worst person to pair with him on the right side.
****ing awful. Giving the ball away constantly, couldn't defend, couldn't create. Deserved to lose. Trent was like a rabbit in the headlights, truly awful performance. Attack was non-existent. Ref was atrocious, VAR was worse. They should have had a penalty, they should also have had a red card for the very clear foul on Mane. If we had fans in the stadium I'd be saying we're still in with a shout. As it stands, not a ****ing chance. Embarrassing!
Oh, and put me in a room with Mcmanaman for five minutes and I promise none of us will every have to listen to the **** commenting again. What an absolute bellend he can be!
Carra and Nev did a lot about him last night. The thing is, carra makes the point that people question his positioning and yes defensively he’s not the best. But then Cafu and Roberto Carlos weren’t the best defenders. thing is, the way we play, klopp wants him pushed on. Look at the 3rd goal v arsenal, 99.9% of right backs would not be pressing the left back from a goal kick. Normally they’d be back on half way line holding position, ball would go left back and arsenal would get out. But klopp wants him to push on. Now occasionally it means there will be a big gap behind him and it looks like he’s out of position, but other times he wins the ball, and suddenly we have 4 players in their third with most of the opposition ahead of the ball. as has been said it’s risk and reward. Klopp thinks the reward of getting him pushed up outweighs the risk getting caught upfield. Now normally that’s because we have Hendo to drop in, fab to cover and Gomez to cover but obviously recrntly that’s not been the case so it’s been highlighted more. I personally think it’s just lazy punditry to suddenly think he’s poor defensively based on this season when really he’s bot majorly bene worse but it’s just been exposed slightly more by the lack of players around him.
Benzema and Kabak; harsh call but a penalty imo since the latter didn't get anywhere near the ball. Former was clearly looking for it too though
in the first half? Nah benzema kicked the back of kanaka leg after he got infront. Nothing in that imo
Utter ****e. Trent must have had Southgate pissing himself tonight. And that's it with Keita- get him off the books in the summer, even if we give him away. Apart from one mistake though, thought Kabak did well. Phillips is limited on the ground and was exposed today. But Mane.... God help us.
Can't understand why he left Mane on and took off Jota. Mane has been crap all season and he was crap again last night. ****ing awful season can't wait to see the back of it! There goes our final hope of silverware this season because we've proved we can't score at Anfield.
We lost last night before we stepped onto the pitch. I understand the thinking about putting Keita in there but it just didn’t work. This season is a write off. Many of us said it early; no CB’s, no hope....and so it has turned out. Our current pairing at the back are not good enough. Period.
It's the lack of effort and urgency that annoys me the most. Half the time we don't even look like we give a **** and effort is put in by one, maybe two players. The rest look like they want to be elsewhere; half of them ought to be
I thought that it was more clueless in the first half...totally and utterly lost. 2nd half was better but the damage continued to be individual mistakes. What else should be expect with Philips in the back line I guess? But highly frustrating that we didn’t fix it when we could.
for me: a) trent. he made a mistake right off where its absolutely basic. he just ran right at the guy on the left wing and the guy just took it round him. Its defending 101 to slow up and then only commit when the ball is there. He then made the cardinal error of diving header into the middle of the goal rather than running with the guy and trying to at least trust alisson to save. After that he got the hump and didn't bother his hole getting back. b) robertson. stealing a living last night. didn't get back in ither., back passed constatnly when up the park. c) wijnaldum - ultimate crab. There were so many times you want him to just drive at this lot but he steadfastly refused to do anything. d) Jota looked tried and leggy and full of errors first half, he made a couple effrots at making runs and one fell luckily to salah. e) mane. the ref had his number, not sure if there was previously but all mane wanted to do was fall over and he even got a couple non frees but in the main actual frees ended up waved off due to his insistence in hitting the ground. he was seriously sulking. f) keita. last game for us? he made one interception but he wouldn't get out and cover the right side and so was embarrassingly hauled off. g) alisson. should have made a save on one goal imo. h) fabinho. klopp didn't get the guy to sit in. we needed him to sit between the cbs but he was doing a henderson chasing about. at one point our no 6 was pressing in advance of the lazy forwards most of all though, i simply didn't see who was supposed to press on kross and modric. Was there a midfielder assigned? I am of the opinion that had firmino started he could have done this job. What I saw was mane on one side trying to just cut off a ball out wide (no real danger) and kross hitting it 40 yards over phillips head and bang goal. The tactics were all wrong and the effort was seriously poor.
The result isn't even that bad but the performance was just so abysmal. The players were shockingly poor in terms of passing but the overall set up of the team is on Klopp - what was he thinking?? Keita will no doubt be the scapegoat but the entire midfield was so poor. They offered nothing, even Fabinho. Gini just does absolutely nothing yet he's rewarded with captaincy and playing every minute. He's a waste of a shirt. Keita - this was his chance but did nothing and I do fear this is the end for him. Thiago helped to bring some control to the team. Trent and Robbo let us down again. Robbo hasn't got an assist or created chance in around 15 games now, and Trent was awful defensively. Phillips was found out at this level and it's the clearest indication as to why he's not good enough to be at this club. Not criticising him because that's his level and it's not his fault but I'm just angry at the situation. Kabak was the one positive of the night. Not perfect but he did a lot of good defending. Less said about the front 3, the better. Are we seeing a genuine decline in Mane? He killed every attack and has done for months. This is very worrying.
Now let's move onto Klopp. We continue to play a high line even with the slowest CBs in the world. Ok, fair enough, I can live with that as long as it gets the team high up the pitch to compress the space and put pressure on the opposition in key areas. But that's the thing - we did NOT press at all. There is no point playing a high line if we're going to give the opposition all the time and space in the world to pick their long passes and exploit our weak defence. Madrid have two all time greats in midfield in Kroos and Modric - yet we just sat off them. They were able to ping those long balls and bypass our midfield completely. Zero pressing from the front and from the midfield, but tbf to the mid, they were bypassed a lot of the time. Real did a number on us and it's the same tactic over and over again. When we have possession, they just need to sit deep and not give our front 3 any space in behind. And when they have the ball, they just need to lump it long over the top and catch us out. It's been almost a year and Klopp still hasn't adapted to this.
TAA and Keita been subject to racist messages on Instagram Was going to say I hope it’s not Liverpool fans but anyone that does that isn’t an actual fan anyway. Just pathetic
actually real scored off the sit deep and long hoof over the right full's head tactic. route 1: no thought required for zidane. why exactly arsenal pinned aubameyang back and refused to use this tactic i don't know. What I can tell you right now is grealish or whever is going to have an absolute field day saturday.
Its most likely the same trolls who do it to other clubs. how the **** twitter etc are allowed anonymise these people and enable them i don't know. If they were arrested day 1 it'd be cut out. I absolutely fail to see the point of even going finding a player's social media to give them any sort of earful. its just plain odd but i suppose the generation after ours moved off closed forums onto these speak to the world platforms and see it as normal.
