Scientists have been trying to determine the origins of the planet for millenia and they still haven't figured it out. I for one find the whole creationism thing hard to swallow (and I believe in God) but I'm not even going to pretend to have a theory on how the world came to being. At this stage I don't think it's even possible to determine how it all started.

It’s a good and interesting point, no doubt, but one which people may choose to level at God, as well: if God exists, they may ask, then who created God? Where did he come from? And if we generously allow for the fact that God simply exists, what on earth was he doing for all those billions of years before deciding to get down to the business of creation?

It’s roundabout this point my head usually melts.

I have had some really difficult times in my life - I look to my family and friends as a support network. I certainly wouldn't be looking for divine intervention.

As I mentioned in an earlier comment, this thread was in direct response to a religious type having a pop at atheists.

My intelligence level has nothing to do with religion, there are both idiots and highly intelligent people who follow one God or another - it's simply frightening that they also let these people drive.

No matter how bad things get, let me assure you I will NEVER waste my time 'praying' <laugh> ...The huge level of irony involved in your comment about MY ignorance is the staggering thing here...<ok>

Is it a pun that your avatar features a character called 'Bender' ? <whistle> ...Merry Christmas.

Shut it, fat boy. Judging by the fact you weigh 18 stone, i'd say it was a fair bet you don't find anything hard to swallow! <laugh>

So why not respond on that thread? Why begin another? To try and focus attention on the only person whose opinion matters, yours.

    Dear Mr. Mask...
I haven't read all the posts ( who has ? ) - but how can you claim to be offended by a member of the ' God squad ' having a pop at athiests ? Can you remember what you said in the opening post ? A bit hypocritical I believe. That is all.

Where did I say I was offended?

    I didn't. That is all.

To quote EvolutionFAQ.com, "This claim is based on the calculations of all of the millions of molecules in a single cell forming by chance. No scientist believes this is how life formed."

Big Bang theory starts from the singularity because we have no data from before a short period after it's expansion at the moment.
There are various theories about what caused that singularity, but they're little more than hypotheses at the moment.

And this is where Aquinas' Cosmological Argument falls down. Everything has a cause, so the universe must have had a 'first cause', because it's impossible to have an infinite regression of anything. For Aquinas, that first cause was God. The problem is, it HAS to stop at some point, you can't keep going back and back and back and back etc. etc.

According to St. Anselm of Canterbury, God must have 'Necessary Existence', i.e. it's impossible for him not to exist. This solves Aquinas' problem, but AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

But it's equally as frustrating without a God, because it is impossible at this moment in time to say what caused the Big Bang, how everything came from nothing, how life made itself, it's impossible to prove wither way. Which is ****, really.

I don't intend to get into the subject as such...
I think that the tone of your opening post, and subsequent comment about a God squad member having a pop at athiests is VERY obvious testimony that you sounded offended - even if you claim otherwise.
I also believe that most other GC readers will have drawn the same conclusion.
One of the troubles with extended threads is that eventually they reveal more and more of our inner thoughts - even if we try to hide ( or deny them ) - You really have to be one step ahead at all times to even begin to try to fool people. I'm afraid that even your sympathisers would have to admit that you have not quite succeeded on this occasion in retrospectively pretending not to be offended.

Goodness, what a pompous fellow you are.

Pickwick papers this fine morning was it?

Just after you've stopped congratulating yourself on your astute cleverness, perhaps you'd consider a couple of things?

Firstly, I couldn't give a flying **** for your opinion and second, I really don't give a **** what people on an internet forum think of me! (Best not to judge others by your own tragic feelings of worthlessness) <ok>

I was at no point offended by the aforementioned thread, simply irritated enough to respond with a thread of my own.

If you had taken the time to read the opening gambits, you would seen me admit that this thread was "childish" and as they say, knowledge is power & ignorance is your bliss.

I guess that really wasn't "all", was it?

Thank you for ALL of your compliments - one can never get enough.
What you wrote - and its' obvious implications cannot be unwritten. It was THAT aspect of your contribution to which I referred. I have no interest or problem if you ( or anybody else ) were / were not offended by what was posted bY a member of the God squad. I was pointing out that, at the juncture that I entered the thread, you were being hyprocritical - and that I don't think THAT would help your cause. Please forgive me for bothering to try to help.
