is bulletproof still on? if so that's probably your best bet for indie clubbing (at the O2 Academy).

Will just take this opportunity to thank you folks for the recommendations. I went to several places on Pink Lane which were very cool; Town Wall (I think it was called) was a particularly good one, managed to get a Leffe on tap and I liked the look of the place too <ok>.

Looking good guys. Ideally we want to get a bit of a pub crawl going on, so anyone who can help out with where to start and the general direction to head in from there would be greatly appreciated.

The Cluny is always good for great food, amazing beer and great bands but it's out of the way. Central area is best for your (and my) sort, North Bar near Central Station plays decent music and sells good beer, Head Of Steam is the same as ever. Gotham Town and The Forth etc are cool too. Mr Lynch near Northumbria Uni is mint on a Saturday too, plays lots of 60's and motown etc.

Cheers. To be honest i'm the only one in the group who is bothered about real ales, so if we had to sacrifice them for ease of getting from bar to bar we would. Main thing i that the bars have a good atmosphere, show the footy (for the day) and are within a decent distance of each other. My main concern is the evening, need to find a good club that we can pitch up at and spend a few hours in.

Well this is on the Saturday and we don't play until the Sunday, so really it's just a case of good bars. We want to catch the Liverpool/Utd game then head round a few pubs during the day. Then at night we are looking for places with a bit of life but that aren't full of kids or idiots, and a final club to end up at which will play a variety of music rather than just heavy dance/trance stuff. All of this within a good distance would be great. I don't ask for much...

That for the evening or during the day? Think the quayside may be the option for the day, cheap beers and footy, then these bars at night?

The "Old George" in the mews on the left hand side of the Bigg Market used to do 'travelling beers', beers from different Breweries and different parts of the country.
