I don't think that Southampton formation's accurate. Looks like a 4-2-3-1, to me.
I wonder when keepers are going to start maintaining their position on penalties? A lot seem to go down the middle at the moment.
Indeed you have been the gift that keeps giving in that regard for many a season ... but I can't see it today unless you have some sort of defensive calamity ...
Does my bonce in that ... if the penalty is struck firmly into top or bottom corner the keeper can't get there anywhere ... so why fling yourself? ... if the forward sees you going it makes it a done deal ... Mind you I do think run up shuffles should be outlawed too ... but that's a different story ...
I think that it's against the spirit of the game and the rules. That's why you can't stop your kick. There are enough advantages for the taker nowadays, with VAR checking the keeper's position on the line if he saves it.
I was thinking the same thing the other day, I think it was Ron Atkinson who used to say keepers should just stay in the middle, not those exact words, but something like that.
Southampton are so fragile. Looked ok until they conceded the penalty, but they've been awful since. 2-0 down at home to Burnley this early? Gives them plenty of time to recover, I guess. That or another 9-0 in the offing.
