    Avonmouth is the estuary, rather an estuary off an estuary, the larger one being the Bristol Channel. By the time you get to Bristol docks it is fresh water from the flow of The Avon.

    I had no idea, I just chucked that in as a guess, but I've googled and I'm still none the wiser.

    It's from the same company that run our local rag, so it's most likely a load of crap...

    I don't know whether this is correct or not but my definition of sea/river would be salination. I'm pretty sure that five miles upstream the only salt in the water will come from discarded crisp bags.
