Not to many links between the two clubs really...

Two stand out one's are the ex chairman and S Bould...

Here's Bally's view on the latter...

Kevin Ball says "cultured professionalism" turned Steve Bould into a Sunderland favourite despite his relatively short spell with the club.

Bould will have a foot in both camps this weekend when the Black Cats take on Arsenal, where Bould spent the vast majority of his career and now works as the club's youth team coach.

Ball spent five months playing alongside Bould, who would succeed him as Sunderland captain following the former's departure to Fulham.

The England international would make just 21 league appearances for the Lads before his career was ended by injury, but the fact he made such an impact in such a short space of time came as no surprise to Ball.

"I didn't play alongside Steve for a great deal of time, but he brought cultured professionalism," said Ball of Bould, who cost Sunderland £500,000 in July 1999.

"Take it from me, he could say his piece and could be frightening, but he did it in a different sort of way.

"He could still play in the Premier League in such a composed and dominant way.

"Steve was fantastic for us. As a newly-promoted side we needed people like him - players who'd seen it and done it."

And Ball used Bould's example as a blueprint for his own career when he enjoyed a successful swansong with Burnley between 2000 and 2002.

He explained: "Steve didn't come up here with any other attitude apart from wanting to be successful.

"He didn't come here on a jolly - he wanted to see his career out in a proper fashion.

"I emulated that when I went to Burnley. I joined them because I loved football and that showed very much with Steve."

Larsson has also played for them, also the new lad Deacon..

But surely Quinn and Bould are the stand out names?

    Joe Baker (AFC 1962-6, S 1969-71)
    Brian Chambers (S 1970-3, AFC 1973-4)
    Wilf Rostron (AFC 1974-7, S 1977-80)
    John Hawley (S 1979-81, AFC 1981-3)
    Lee Chapman (AFC 1982-4, S 1983-4)
    John Kay (AFC 1982-4, S 1987-94)
    Niall Quinn (AFC 1985-90, S 1996-2003)
    Steve Bould (AFC 1988-9, S 1999-2001)

Shame Boulds SAFC career was short and sweet.

John Hawley was the player that came immediately to mind, due to the mind-blowing goal he scored for us against them.

    John Hawley

89 league goals in 287 games for seven different clubs

    Charlie Buchan

258 goals in 402 games for both of us.

thats why i picked Charlie Buchan (still probably wrong though)
