he would not have got past year 2 mate. We "failed" in year 1 by losing finals and in year 2 "only got 4th".

ambramovich's billions enable chelsea but his impatience holds them back.

they should have dominated england to the extent the city owners would have gone elsewhere. the fact man utd could get back into the itle picutre etc meant the prem looked more open than it ought to be.

Beleive me City won't make the same mistake. Peopel are not seeing it enough for me. Within 5 seasons the prem and english cups will be the city show.

When a club is writing it's financial dealings in invisible ink, it's hard to believe anything that comes out from them.

They write them on the back of fat cheques made out to the appropriate authority.
    Allegedly. :)

Being the eternal optimist that I am (when it comes to football, if little else) I will hold out hope that there will always be someone to give them a run for their money. If we hadn't imploded this season we'd have been competing still. When someone raises the bar, others do tend to rise to the challenge.

Mostly by spending what they do not have.

The issue I look at are:

    a) spain. it is as rare now as hen's teeth than someone outside barca and real win it. (valencia on 2004, who have been in debt since) and ateltico 6 years ago.

    b) italy: its incredible. ac milan won it after inter imploded but juve have won 9 in a row. chinese money (temporary it seems) hopefully will break this this season.

    c) france: psg have won 8 of the past 9 and are top again but not quite as dominant (yet)

i beleive this is all financial doping and imo england has the same issue.

Yes It is made less of an issue beacuse of the TV share of money but as things stand cheslea and city should win 75-90% of all trophies with the odd other one falling to someone.

as we stand both clubs had a poor 2019/20. cheslea lost the fa cup final. city win the league cup.

I fimrly believe we are headed towards a deeply uncompetitve football league that is most akin to la liga.

I'm with saint on this one. We will come back strong next season. City have already shown that they find it hard to come from behind. They need to be front runners or nothing. We can't overcome the financial doping but we are more than a match for them on the pitch.

Chelsea will be fine until they aren't and Tuchel gets the boot ...... then start again ......

You think we didn't make an offer based on wage demand? We were linked for ages. There were post match interview(s) from Germany in which he appeared very coy when questioned about Liverpool. It looked like he didn't want to give the game away but you could tell it was happening. Would he have given up a dream move over wages? He doesn't look the type.

Where’s that from? City were only out gunned on wages in England by United in the published figures I’ve seen (which obvs won’t include the current fiscal years signings)

Well look it was probably a bit of an exaggeration there I will admit.

I would be referring back a couple years. Arsenal were also ahead of city and at one point we were supposedly paying more than them.

But yeah utd are out in front by miles.

Look the German rags are as bad as anywhere but people seem to think if it's on the German papers it must be true for some reason.

I think personally it's similar to pulisic. A lot of talk and probing press questions to our german manager and the player and 2 and 2 becomes 6 in no time.

We probably talked to his agent and put feelers out to gauge the players interest and that but I would say that we never were seriously in there.

This is always a matter of perception, what you or I perceive as the dream move might just not be anything like what a guy from germany sees as the dream. Both men went for chelsea as did havertz, the wages are massive, they are serial winners and players move on as well. It's also London and all of that.

I'm sure chelsea blew smoke up his arse about being in for cls and titles as well has having the money and the lifestyle.

Even before we got Jota, I said we couldn't afford what Chelsea were prepared to pay given our financial situation and that a CB was a priority. I said he'd be a bench-warmer, and visitors to this parish, those with new-found wealth, scoffed at that. But thank God we didn't spend that money on him.

I still think he'll come good, and he's not as bad as shown so far. But Jota is the better buy. I'd have loved both, if we'd have moved Bobby on in the summer, but we're not a club that can/will do more than £50m a season net spend - if that - no matter what the consequences. And I shudder to ****ing think what an even bigger mess we'd have been in ( and in next summers window) if we'd have paid double for Warner. Still grates that Chelsea CAN afford to blow money like that though.

Well FFP is dead and buried now and with it FSGs long-term strategy for Liverpool. They'll now turn into Ashley with go-faster stripes if they don't change their model accordingly.

He wanted and expected to come to Liverpool. He and his agent wanted Liverpool to match Chelsea's offer - we wouldn't and couldn't. We were simply gazumped. We've done it to smaller teams than us, and financially that is what we are to Chelsea.

Stinks. But it is what it is.

From what I know, we had a deal in place. Chelsea gazzumped us and we wouldn’t match the wages. I fully support the club with this stance.

In any case, Werner is a player who plays best with space behind the defence. That is something that we just haven’t had this season...

imo we might have had a "general" nod from the agent but imo we never had a deal with leipzig. there was massive talk but i think chelsea actually bought the player before the late end of the 2019/20 season.

It wasn't like we hung around so much as there was a dance going on between all the parties but werner went for the girl with the crotchless panties for a quick fumble out the back of the bikes head and ended up with crabs.

I don't think the lack of space behind is a big deal, I think its the type of run you are willing to make is the big thing. We have relegated salah to a very wide role when playing these sides and he might as well be sat on the bench. if jota can run behind and someone can play it in then werner could also make the same type of runs.
