Off Topic If everyone on Earth sat in the ocean at once, how much would sea level rise?

Guesses allowed, but extra marks given to those that show their working out.





I don't really care, I just thought it'd start some arguments really.

 

I guessed at 1cm but I've now looked up the answer,I'm wrong but I'm as honest as the day is long.

 

I saw the answer before I'd considered the question, but I reckon you'd be nearer than my guess would have been.

 

The question is, what did fish smell like before women went swimming in the sea ?

 

Okay, some related 'facts' to help with the answer.

The entire population of Lichtenstein (or Monaco) would fit on a regulation football pitch.

The entire population of America could fit into Hull several times over.

 

Socially distanced n'est pas?

 

My Answer: everyone would drown.

 

Not if they do it when the tide's out.

 

About 7% of the people that have ever lived, are alive now. If all the ancestors were brought back to life, the entire group could fit in any one of Jamaica, Qatar or Kuwait.

 

I reckon a miniscule %age of a millimetre.

edit: on the basis that there are 330m cubic miles of ocean, 8 billion population at say 1 cubic yard apiece? Ocean volume would increase by 1.5 cubic miles. ie by bugger all!

After a lot of thought, my answer is 4ft 6inch because there are a lot of fat people out there.

 

Does everyone include babies?
Does bath water flow into oceans?
Do babies still get thrown out with the bath water?
Need to know, otherwise this could get very deep.

 

But tell me this - if all the people in the world stood around the Ever Given, would she have refloated?

 

And yet, if an iceberg melts, New York is going to be under water and a distant memory in a few hundred years...?... not that i'm happy about icebergs melting mind... but until cows and sheep stop farting thats not going to happen...

 

Some of these icebergs are huge.

In 2017 an iceberg 1/4 of the size of Wales broke off the Larsen C ice shelf in Antartica,this things about 200 metres thick!!!If these continue to break off(calve) and float out into the ocean to melt then it stands to reason that sea levels will rise.I remember reading it at the time and thinking a lot about it.
