You can't, you have to have a good reason to get off. You can get in serious shhite for just being late or if you've been found to research the case.

They will want people from all walks of life, so that will include disabilties/sickness. You are given breaks, so it would be proving why you can't just sit there.

I should add, at the same time, they won't want a juror suddenly being able to continue, because it could throw the whole trial out the window.

Yup....they will say he didn't comply with police instructions, now that could be any single action he made. They will say he was of poor health because of x, y, z. They will say he led a life of abuse, alcohol or drugs. They might make suggestions the deceased took or swallowed something prior to his arrest. They will say the deceased has previous convictions for violence or something. They will say anything and everything to wriggle out of this.

That's the bit I get...they will lie and muddy the water to save their sorry arses.
The bit I don't get is how they get 12 people to believe that ****!

I have to restrain kids who can be surprisingly strong and back in the late 1980s and early 1990s worked in kids homes with teenagers up to the age of 18 who were capable of violence.
One of the first things you are told on the safe handling training is that if some one can talk it DOES NOT mean they can breathe.
I have known this for well over 30 years yet the old bill do not seem to have gotten this pretty ****ing basic concept across to their officers.

    As kammy says...

The bit I want to know about is when the paramedics turned up, one of them looked for a pulse in his neck. Why did he do that, and while doing it why didn't he ask the cop to remove his knee. Did he get a pulse. Why didn't he administer first aid or attempt to recover the victim. The cop didn't get off him, until the stretcher was available. Also why was his well being not checked, before putting him on the stretcher limp! It's as if they knew he was already dead and didn't want to confirm that at the scene for their own safety or out of utter stupidity. If what I suggest was the course of action that happened, then surely the paramedics need to be held accountable as well, as they failed to do their job properly. Unless I've missed something in all this or I'm seeing things that aint there.

    Tbh I agree with you.
I think that in the US that there is an unhealthy link between the emergency services that leads to them not challenging each other.

It is one of the big reasons that I am opposed to the fire brigade service being moved from local authority control to being run by a joint service with the police.

Organisations begoecomene more concerned with covering their arses than serving their communities and once that happens it leads to terrible consequences. A **** load of schools are about to find this out after the testimonies students have made to that website.

One of the key safety valves to stop abuse of power is the absolute need for professionals and professions to challenge behaviours that do not seem right.

Every scandal from pin down, Saville, deaths in custody, children being murdered by parents while known to social services, sexual abuse cases, grooming etc has one thing in common.
That is that colleagues did not challenge poor practice.

I thought it the first time I ever saw that video....ok, he's felt his neck pulse, but not asked the cop to get off him. But to my eyes, he looks clearly unconscious or dead. There's water trailing on the floor, did he piss himself, it appeared it happened at the moment he lost consciousness, so the bladder was releasing the urine because his muscles had relaxed (assumption). Obviously there could have been other reasons for the water I saw. The paramedic attempts no recovery of the patient. They even proceed to put him on the trolley unconscious. Obviously I'm only going by what my eyes see in video, but I'd certainly be wanting to ask the questions.

I can see the defence is already going with the line of 'back-up' ie suggesting this was because of a disturbance (raised voices). Hence why he is focusing on the responses into the call handler. Sounds like a code 30 was raised, get your arse here now.

If I was ever accused of a crime I’d want a jury who understand what irony is.
