I just think Boris is putting pressure on the EU not to block vaccine exports. Plus it encourages people over here to remain careful.

No, Johnson is lying through his teeth because if we get another wave here he needs gullible people to blame the EU, when the variant causing the 3rd wave in the EU is the Kent variant.

Saw this or other comments earlier.
It is the Kent variant causing problems in the EU, so when he uses phrases such as “If it washes up on our shores” it’s just a cover for if he gets ending the lockdown wrong.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't delay vaccinating people for no bloody reason.

Maybe if you looked around you might understand that there are several reasons why the E.U. is trailing with their inoculation programme.
This report is 12 days old, but you can see from this that the E.U. is supporting other countries as well as their own because, believe it or not, this isn’t just a European disease.
This states that they have exported 34 million doses of vaccines to other countries, including the UK, and figures I saw this morning says that they have now exported 47 million doses, whilst giving 41 million to their own.

Just going to point out that the Kent variant is called that as it is where was discovered. We did not engineer it in some lab and you cannot be certain it originated there.

Some people want us to never mention the disease came from China but to totally take responsibility for a variant we found here. Double Standards.

I thought it was reported some time back that cases of 'the Kent variant' were actually discovered in America before they were in Kent anyway? But like you say, where these mutations occur doesn't equate to that country being resposible for it. I suppose the more cases there are in a country the more likely it is to develop variants but considering the number of world wide cases, variants were always going to happen. Trying to place blame on their origin is just dumb.

The UK is not responsible for the Kent variant. I mean, collectively a lot of places are responsible for allowing the disease to spread enough that many variants have sprung up, but the fact that the now-dominant strain happened to be first spotted in Kent and not, I dunno, Ghent is pretty much random chance.

Sensible stockpiling of the necessities. Brandy needed here Mrs Jab wants to do a Mary Berry sauce, a litre of VSOP should be sufficient.

Perhaps it would be far better to call that particular strain of the virus 'United Kingdom Identified Pathogen' ..... or UKIP.

    Works for me.

Fascinating, where did you find that?

Both Fitzgerald and Hemingway survived the virus (and WWI). Alcoholism and a heart attack killed the former, the latter killed himself with a shotgun, almost certainly when drunk. Death waits for us all.

Do you remember what Denis Potter named the cancerous growth that finally killed him?

Rupert, after a certain Rupert Murdoch.

Dutch chum reposted it on FB from a year ago to the day. It's even more appropriate given it's the anniversary of the (late and half baked) UK shutdown.

I had mild cold symptoms with AZ for 2 days when l had it 3 weeks ago. The great thing with AZ is how it protects you going forward. I tested positive this week, caught C19 from some people in the office last week (l work in Saudi). I did not detect anything for the first few days (was already in isolation after the outbreak was discovered) but now feel as if l have a heavy cold and nothing more. I am deemed high risk as am 61 and a Type 2 Diabetic. Without AZ l would probably be in in a much worse condition.

So remember all; the first shot reduces risk, it does not prevent, but it sure does improve the immune system. Stay safe everyone.

Mucho better by yesterday thanks, feel absolutely fine now. I have a reduced white cell count atmso was a bit prone to catching things - I expect it contributed to the reaction
